You will be responsible for a broad range of duties such as monitoring flora and fauna of grasslands, wetlands, and forests; monitoring and controlling invasive species; and utilizing GIS and GPS technologies. You may also conduct minor maintenance on equipment, grounds and visitor use facilities. Collecting and organizing biological field data using standardized collection procedures and equipment; assembling basic information on habitat (forests, wetlands, and grasslands), plants, and fish and wildlife populations.
Ensuring quality control of data collected; performing field, and data analysis of collected samples and records data.
Making preliminary assessments or determinations on the cause of noted problems.
Collecting data from surveys and employing appropriate data analyses, mathematics and statistics to interpret results.
Assisting with performing a variety of habitat restoration and management activities in forests, grasslands, and wetland landscapes.
Carrying out routine field studies on plants and plant ecology, and/or wildlife and wildlife ecology; inventorying and monitoring of invasive plants.
Working with private landowners, other federal and state agencies, and non-governmental partners to carry out low complexity, non-controversial habitat restoration projects.
Assisting in locating threatened and endangered plant or animal populations; and identifies and maps major exotic species infestations and rare plant populations.
Assisting in the areas of public use which may include answering visitor questions, assisting in a visitor center, and conducting refuge tours.
Assisting with maintenance and construction work such as road repair, fencing, posting, painting, minor repair of equipment and facilities, clearing water control structures such as dikes, ditches, or water impoundments.
May be required to operate passenger vehicles, farm tractors, light trucks, tractors, boats, ATV/UTVs, small watercraft and utilize global positioning systems (GPS), geographic information systems (GIS), cameras, and a variety of computer programs.
May be responsible for providing work direction for volunteers, YCC enrollees, temporary employees, etc.

Qualifications
By the closing date of this announcement, you must meet the minimum qualification requirements as outlined in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook and as identified in this announcement below.
Specialized experience: One year (52 weeks) of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-04). Examples of specialized experience may include: providing technical assistance in the areas of botany, wildlife or habitat conservation and management by observing, collecting and recording biological field data; computing, compiling, and presenting data in reports for a biological or scientific program; participating in assignments to perform such tasks as collecting, organizing, and analyzing data; keeping detailed records of findings or results of biological science tests and procedures; assisting with invasive species inventory, monitoring or control; or assisting with private land habitat restoration projects.

Education: Applicants must have completed a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with major study or at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as biology, chemistry, statistics, entomology, animal husbandry, botany, physics, agriculture, or mathematics.
OR
Combination of experience and education: Applicants must have an equivalent combination of specialized experience and education, as described above. To compute this, first determine your education as a percentage of the education requirement; and then determine your specialized experience as a percentage; add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 % to qualify.
NOTE: Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours of a course of study leading to a bachelor's degree is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirements. Two full academic years of study, or 60 semester hours, beyond the second year is equivalent to 1 year of specialized experience.
This position is performed both indoors and outdoors. The work involves physical exertion such as bending, walking over wet and rough surfaces, crouching, stooping, lifting or reaching. Hand and finger dexterity and physical coordination may involve fine and precise work, delicate adjustments or exact measurements.

Additional information
This recruitment will be used to fill temporary seasonal positions which are not-to-exceed 1 year in total but may be extended without further competition or terminated at management's discretion. Temporary positions that work 1039 hours or less in a service year may be eligible for rehire in future seasons depending on work demands and budget. Temporary positions hired for a field season will work full-time until end of field season. Upon completion of work, employment will be terminated or work schedule changed to intermittent, which has no predetermined schedule of work.
Temporary employees in the Federal Government earn paid vacation and sick leave if they are on an appointment lasting longer than 90 days. Employees on temporary appointments who are expected to work 130 hours per month or more for at least 90 days are eligible to enroll in a Federal Employees Health Benefits plan with a full government contribution.
Employees electing to participate in the FEHB will be responsible for the employee share of the premium while on the official agency roles, which is deducted from bi-weekly earnings. After separating from federal employment, employees will be offered to continue participation in FEHB under the Temporary Continuation of Coverage (TCC) option. Employees electing to continue coverage under the TCC provision will be responsible for the full premium amount plus a 2% administration fee.
