As a Student Trainee (Outreach Specialist), you will be responsible for:
Assisting with daily administrative, monitoring, and research of existing Service social media accounts including Twitter, Facebook, Flickr, You Tube, and national blogs; works with established deadlines and ensures timely completion of assigned projects.
Writing, designing, and producing informational materials for internal and external audiences using a variety of outreach tools including: news releases, public service announcements, newsletters, briefing papers, fliers, posters, fact sheets, PowerPoint presentations, handouts, mailings, electronic media, and other publications for both scientific and lay audiences.
Assisting program officials with coordination of MFC in-reach content and activities including developing written materials that describes the nature and purpose of the organizations programs and projects to outside entities including contemporaries, peers, partners, stakeholders and the public.
Offering recommendations to program officials regarding the content and manner of presentation of information intended for internal and external audiences of different demographic and cultural groups. Participating on the Center's outreach team and serves as an outreach point of contact for activity requests.
Education:
Completion of 4 academic years of post-high school leading to a bachelor's degree or equivalent degree (as determined by the educational institution attending).
OR Experience:
One year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 level that provided me with the ability to perform the duties of the position. Examples of qualifying experience include: assisting with developing and using social media, Web and mobile media based internet and intranet content and applications to deliver information; assisting with writing, designing and producing informational materials such as news releases, newsletters, fliers, posters, fact sheets, and PowerPoint presentations; and participating in outreach activities such as presenting information to internal and external groups
OR Combination of Education and Experience:
For GS-05 levels positions, only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours in a course of study leading to a bachelor's degree is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirements. Two full academic years of study, or 60 semester hours, beyond the second year is equivalent to 1 year of specialized experience. Determine your total qualifying experience as a percentage of the year of specialized experience required at the GS-05 level. Then determine your education as a percentage of the education that meets the requirements for the GS-05. Add the two percentages together. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify for the GS-05 based on a combination.
Special Provisions for Interns with Previous Related Education or Experience: Previous education and/or experience may be evaluated to determine the highest grade level for which the individual is qualified.
