About the Position:
This position is located at U.S. Army Medical Command Headquarters, located Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio, Texas. MEDCOM HQ's is located in beautiful and historic San Antonio and is within easy commuting distance of desirable neighborhoods and excellent school systems. San Antonio offers mild winters, low cost of living, and no personal state income tax. Ft. Sam civilians enjoy use of post recreation facilities i.e. fitness centers, golf course, bowling alley, outdoor rec areas, auto craft shop, equestrian center and on Post Dining Facilities.

Position is located on a Tobacco Free campus.

Help

  • Works under general supervision of the Staff Judge Advocate
  • Applies thorough professional knowledge and experienced judgment to independently plan and complete assignments, discussing significant policy issues and problems with the supervisor.
  • As an attorney in the Office of the Staff Judge Advocate, U.S. Army Medical Command, provides dedicated professional legal support and advice (written and oral) to the MEDCOM Health Care Acquisition Activity and the contracting centers, regional contracting offices and contracting officers under its command on the acquisition of medical health care services; and other medical services, supplies, and equipment in support of the Army's medical mission.

Qualifications

Applicants will be evaluated to determine if they meet the minimum qualification requirements and on the extent to which their application shows possession of the following competencies associated with the position.

You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency ( Knowledge, Skills and Ability) in the following areas:

1. Ability to exercise independent judgment and to research, analyze and interpret complex legal laws, regulations and policies.
2. Knowledge of International and Operational Law.
3. Ability to prepare legal opinions that are concise, well-reasoned, legally sound, and consistent with relevant precedent.
4. Ability to provide accurate legal advice on complicated questions of Federal and State Law.
5. Ability to communicate, both orally and in writing, with professionals and non-professionals.

of the Army considers veteran's preference eligibility a positive factor for attorney hiring. TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT: If currently employed as an attorney by the federal government you must have completed one year of time-in-grade at the next lower grade level within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement, or previously served at the same or higher grade as the position being filled.

Education

The following minimum qualification requirements must be met before applicants are eligible for further consideration.

Education: An applicant must have successfully completed a full course of study in a school of law accredited by the American Bar Association (ABA) and have the first professional law degree (LLB or JD).

Bar Membership: An applicant must currently be a member in good standing of the bar of a state, territory of the United States, District of Columbia, or Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.

Experience: Applicant must have two or more years of professional legal experience, acquired after being admitted to the bar, commensurate with the duties and responsibilities of the position. Graduation from an ABA-Accredited Law School in the top 25% of the class or an advanced law degree such as an LLM may substitute for one year of the required professional legal experience.

Only degrees from an accredited college or university recognized by the Department of Education are acceptable to meet positive education requirements or to substitute education for experience.
