Duties

Help

If you are selected as an IT Specialist, your responsibilities would include, but would not be limited to:

  • Designing, developing, testing, debugging, implementing, and documenting automated applications and databases for the OIG.
  • Analyzing IT requirements, developing appropriate automated solutions, and providing application and database support.
  • Conducting system tests prior to implementation of applications, Developing and modifying various queries and reports,
  • Researching emerging application development technologies and software and make recommendations regarding suitability,
  • Monitoring and preparing for migration and upgrade of legacy systems,
  • Ensuring all applications and systems are compatible with technical architecture and meet information security and information assurance requirements.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade level (or equivalent).

Qualifications

To qualify for this position at the GS-14 grade level, you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level obtained in the public sector. (Specialized experience is paid or unpaid experience which has equipped you with the specific knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.) Examples of specialized experience include such duties as:
Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular competencies/knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position and is typically in or related to the work of the position being filled. Experience can be gained in the IT field or through the performance of work where the primary concern is IT. Examples of specialized experience for this position include developing web apps, e-forms, and websites within SharePoint; providing support to advanced SharePoint users within a agency; programming using ASP.net; and implementing and supporting various applications and databases.

In addition to the specialized experience listed above, applicants must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below on their resume.

1. Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.
2. Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.
3. Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
4. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.

Additional information

The Career Transition Assistance Plan (CTAP)/Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP).
