This position is located at Fort Drum, New York.
Fort Drum, NY: Fort Drum, home of the 10th Mountain Division, is located in Northern New York's picturesque North County. As one of the most historically unique and geographically beautiful areas of the United States, the area offers bountiful outdoor recreational opportunities such as hunting, fishing, boating, sailing, scuba diving, white water rafting, and winter sports of all types. Fort Drum borders Lake Ontario, the St. Lawrence River, Canada, the Adirondack Mountains, and Vermont.
Guthrie Army Health Center is located at Fort Drum, New York, near the city of Watertown. Watertown is located in the scenic 1,000 lakes region of upstate New York. Museums and historic points of interest include the War of 1812 Battlefield in Sackets Harbor, Boldt Castle, Millionaire's Row, the Antique Boat Museum, lighthouses, Burrville Cider Mill, the Clayton Opera House, and the Jefferson County Historical Society. Additionally, the area provides quaint downtown shopping, on-the-water dining, and family amusements that make Watertown a great place to live.

The Department of Behavioral Health consists of four Embedded Behavioral Health Teams, the Child and Family Behavioral Health System, the Family Advocacy Program, the Traumatic Brain Injury Rehabilitation Clinic, and the Army Substance Abuse Program. The department has over 120 employees in seven different buildings to provide exceptional behavioral health care to Soldiers and Family members.

Duties

Help

As a Pharmacy Technician, you will perform duties such as:

  • Provide instruction to patients on proper use of medications, referring questions requiring professional knowledge and experience to a registered pharmacist.
  • Work with prescriber or pharmacist to clarify issues or problems with dosing, interactions, or instructions.
  • Enter prescriptions into computer system reviewing profile for allergies, drug/drug or drug/food interactions, and duplicate orders.
  • Perform as a controlled substance vault custodian for all controlled substances.
  • Fill various types of substances, strengths, dosages, and quantities to be dispensed in accordance with accepted practice and pharmacy standing operating procedures (SOP).
  • Types the label, selects correct medication, places medication in appropriate container, reviews, than places label on container.

  • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.

  • This position is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations. Applicants tentatively selected for appointment to this position will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to applicant testing and random drug testing. Tentatively selected applicants will be required to sign DA Form 5019 requiring participation in random drug urinalysis testing. A job offer to an applicant who is a not a current employee will be withdrawn if the applicant refuses to be tested. Applicants with verified positive test results shall be refused employment. Applications from such individuals shall not be considered for employment for a period of 6 months from the date of the test results.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Experience required: To qualify based on your work experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as: filling prescriptions and utilizing pharmacy based computer systems gained in hospital pharmacies, retail pharmacies, or in pharmaceutical firms or laboratories. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you may qualify if your education meets the definitions below:
Education Substitution for Specialized Experience for GS-05: Successful completion of at least a four-year course of study above high school level leading to a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major study in pharmacy, or that included at least 24 semester hours in pharmacy-related courses.
Combination of Experience and Education Substitution for Specialized Experience for GS-05:
If you have some, but not all, of the experience or education described above, you may still qualify by combining the amount of creditable experience and education that you possess. To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of undergraduate education in excess of 60 hours (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100% to qualify.
