Summary

About the Position: The position is located at Dugway Proving Ground (DPG) a remote & isolated installation approximately 50 minutes from Tooele, Utah and 90 minutes' drive from Salt Lake City, Utah. DPG has a highly professional workforce providing support to an array of missions and organizations. DPG offers various alternate work schedule opportunities with most of the workforce working 4 ten hour shifts Monday thru Thursday. DPG is physically remote, entirely self-sufficient with government housing available for civilians, an Army and Air Force Exchange Service Exchange Outlet, Commissary, Community Club, Golf Course, Bowling Center, Physical Fitness Center, Child Care, Youth Services and Tooele County K-12 school system on post. Employees choosing to live off post may use subsidized commuter van transport which operates to and from many of the major cities and towns throughout Utah. Help

Serves as a calibration specialist in the parameters of electrical, electronic, microwave, nucleonic, optical/laser, physical and dimensional measurements applicable to the secondary transfer level calibration, certification and evaluation of test, measurement, and diagnostic equipment (TMDE). The purpose is to provide measurement traceability through an Army Area Calibration Laboratory, the Army Primary Standards Laboratory, and the National Institute of Standards and Technology to the International System of Units, and provide information on TMDE accuracy and uncertainty. Performs repairs incidental to calibration as required.

Qualifications

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Precision Measurement Equipment Calibrator without more than normal supervision appling troubleshooting procedures and practices to repair test, measurement, and diagnostic equipment (TMDE). Use of calibration standards and automated workstations to calibrate test instruments such as multi-meters, signal generators, and oscilloscopes under the close supervision of a work leader or journey level Precision Measurement Calibrator who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • PHYSICAL EFFORTS: The work may require long periods of standing or sitting along with some walking or bending during the course of extended periods on measurements. Requires frequent lifting, carrying, and handling of items weighing up to 40 pounds with occasional requirements to lift items in excess of 50 pounds.
  • WORKING CONDITIONS: The work is performed in laboratories and user facilities where technicians are exposed to the hazards of high voltage high pressure, high and low temperatures, chemicals and radiation. Calibrators must comply with all safety regulations applicable to the calibration mission.
