Summary

The Office of Audit (OA) is responsible for conducting and supervising audits relating to the Department of Labor’s programs and operations; recommending policies for activities designed to promote economy, efficiency, and effectiveness in the administration of the Department’s programs and operations; and preventing and detecting fraud, waste, abuse, and mismanagement in these programs and operations.

Duties

Help

Participates in performing audits of all organizations, programs, activities, and functions within or supported by the Department of Labor. Uses electronic spreadsheet, word processing, and database applications to assist in performing the duties of the position.

Participates in performing preliminary surveys of accounting activities, operational methods, and internal controls of entities by helping conduct the necessary research of laws, regulations, internal policies and procedures, contracts, grant documents, etc.

In accordance with the approved audit program, conducts interviews, audits records, and prepares work papers to document the results of assigned segments of the audit. Participates in entrance conferences with senior officials of the entity being audited. Maintains contacts with officials, audit supervisors, and Departmental managers to explain regulations, procedures, etc.

Prepares written audit findings and recommendations for incorporation into an overall report ensuring technical accuracy, and reasonableness and effectiveness of recommendations.

Attends training sessions and receives on-the-job training designed to improve professional capabilities, effectiveness and further career development.

Qualifications

Applicants must have 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, GS-7, in the Federal Service.

Specialized experience for this position includes, but is not limited to presenting conclusions, findings, or recommendations to a senior Auditor or supervisor for potential use in developing report findings; using time appropriately to complete multiple tasks by given deadlines; documenting work performed using proper grammar, punctuation and spelling to describe the purpose, nature, timing, extent and results of the work performed; conducting research to identify and retrieve data or information relevant to the objective of the research or audit; and assisting in the identification of laws, regulations procedures applicable to the subject of research or audit.

NOTE: A writing sample may be required at the time of interview.

This position will not be filled until the Department's Placement Assistance Programs have been fully utilized.

Education

To qualify for the GS-09 based on education you must possess: Master's degree or equivalent graduate degree or 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related
