About the Position:

This position is located on Yongsan Garrison in Seoul, assigned to USFK. Yongsan is the headquarters for U.S. Forces Korea, 8th U.S. Army, and Installation Management Command-Korea. Seoul is a vibrant capital city of over 10 million people with museums, traditional markets, and modern shopping districts. However, the position is scheduled to be relocated to USAG Humphreys, Korea within the tour of duty as a result of the Yongsan Relocation Plan. Relocation costs will be paid in accordance with the Joint Travel Regulations for employees directed to relocate to the Pyeongtaek area.

Duties

Help

  • Serve as deputy media relations/ command information chief to include advising the command on media engagements, making assessment on news coverage and providing guidance on media trends.
  • Draft, edit and release public statements and receive and respond to media queries.
  • Plan, coordinate and execute media escorts with tier-one media to convey command mission and communication objectives.
  • Plans, manages and executes command information program to include management of the USFK website and social media platforms.
  • Develops and writes information materials designed to reach international U.S. and Korean national audiences through the news media such as magazines, wire services, radio, television, newspaper, etc.
  • Reviews and checks all products including news releases, photographs, radio/TV scripts and broadcast releases, speeches, and magazine articles for security, accuracy, policy and propriety before final approval.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in the Federal Service (can be obtained in the public or private sector), which includes developing written informational materials for dissemination through a variety media outlets; experience transmitting information and evaluating the effectiveness of plans developed to communicate with targeted audiences; along with skill in written English communication to develop new releases, feature stories, radio, television spot and scripts that transmit information about complex programs; and making English oral presentations to seek cooperation from specialized groups organizations.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).

Movement overseas may require you to initiate a change in your health benefits plan to ensure coverage.
  • Pay retention may be offered to successful applicants for positions at overseas locations. For this provision to apply to employees already overseas, the selected individual would have to require a permanent change of station move and would have to be selected as a result of a recruitment effort that had been extended outside of the overseas command involved.
