About the Position:
This position is with the Directorate of Public Works, Operations & Maintenance Division located on Fort Shafter, Hawaii.

Duties

Help

Duties will include and are not limited to the following:

  • Operate a 15,000 pound road sweeper to remove rubbish and debris from roads, streets, and parking lots.
  • Perform operator maintenance, dumping of rubbish, and cleaning of equipment upon completion of daily operations
  • Operates dump truck up to 10 tons to haul debris, rubbish, trash, soil, rock, and other backfill material.
  • Operate a variety of other mobile equipment to include back-hoes, rollers, front-end loaders, dump trucks, and trucks up to 10 ton capacity.

Conditions of Employment:
  • Incumbent is required to obtain, within 180 days of employment, and maintain the proper state issued, valid Commercial Drivers License including appropriate endorsements and DOD requirements for the type of vehicle being operated.
  • This position is designated as Drug Testing Required. Incumbent is subject to random urinalysis testing in accordance with DA guidelines.
  • Employee is subject to be called back to work during non-duty hours to respond to emergencies and make repairs. Employee will have his/her name on a call out roster and will provide their phone number for the roster
  • Protective devices such as but not limited to ear plugs, safety glasses, respirators, gloves, hard hat and safety shoes is required.

Qualifications

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an ROAD SWEEPER OPERATOR without more than normal supervision. Applicants must meet the screen out element to be considered further. To meet the screen out element applicant should document experience performing common Road Sweeper Operator tasks including operating a 10 ton truck and attached mounted vacuum sweeper. Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • Work Practices (includes keeping things neat, clean, and in order)


PHYSICAL EFFORT: Moderate physical effort is used when reaching, bending, turning, or moving hands, arms, feet, and legs in order to operate the hand and foot controls and other road sweeper attachments.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed outside on dry and wet, flat, or rolling paved roads and streets where the operator is subject to noise, vibration, dust, dirt, minor cuts, and the possibility of serious injury from collision with automobiles.
