About the Position: You will serve as an Archivist/Reference Librarian in the Ike Skelton Combined Arms Research Library Special Collections and Archives Division, working under the direction of the Chief, Special Collections and Archives.

Duties

Help

As a Librarian, you will be responsible for the development and ongoing maintenance of the archival collections and perform the following duties:

  • Organize and manage the Library's preservation program, including defining needs, establishing goals, objectives, and plans.
  • Responsible for the physical preservation, conservation, and repairs of the archives and library materials that are valuable and fragile.
  • Monitors environmental conditions in the archive area and arranges and processes archival collections so that intellectual and physical controls are achieved.
  • Plans and prepares inventories and other finding aids, as well as other descriptive analysis of assigned archival materials.
  • Responsible for the disaster/emergency contingency planning for the library collections, including salvage priorities and chains of command. serves as a military subject specialist in historical reference and information research.
  • Performs both on-line and manual searches requiring review of extensive original source material, general publications, documents, legislative material, government old and rare publications, articles, periodicals, etc. and prepares specialized and comprehensive guide and inventory lists and training aids both on-line and manual, for patrons.
  • Researches and provides copies of documents, photographs, maps, audio visual materials and other archival material to other agencies for exhibits.
  • Responsible for providing library instruction and information literacy.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. THIS POSITION HAS A POSITIVE EDUCATION REQUIREMENT: In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below.

Basic Education Requirement: This position has a basic requirement which must be met in conjunction with the specialized experience requirement for the position. The basic requirement for this position is two full years of progressively higher level graduate education or master's in library science or equivalent graduate degree, e.g., LL.B or J.D related to the position, from a regionally accredited college or university, in addition to completion of all work required for a bachelor's degree. (NOTE: Transcripts are required at the time of application).

AND

Specialized Experience Required: In addition to meeting the basic education requirements above, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as experience recommending and coordinating collection inventory, overseeing and developing strategies for collection development/maintenance and provide instructional services to patrons.

You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas:

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-7).
