Duties

Help

Incumbent will serve as a Public Affairs Specialist for the US Army Field Band at Fort Meade. Duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Representing the US Army Field Band (TUSAFB) with national and local media outlets and carries develops coherent and strategic messages for said outlets while the organization performs its national touring mission.
  • Planning, coordination, and execution of all public affairs, media and specific targeted marketing efforts to showcast TUSAFB.
  • Communicating with media relations, community relations at DoD and outlying stations.
  • Disseminating a wide range of information /data to inform the public and gain its support of the Command mission, functions, and activities
  • Using a variety of materials such as fact sheets, news releases, feature music articles, exhibits, pamphlets, brochures, posters, and flyer to communicate with the public.
  • Using social media avenues for advertising ,marketing, and communicating info to the public . Avenues include, Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, and Flickr.
  • Corresponding with Army Reserve Ambassadors, Civilian Aids to the Secretary of the Army, Veterans organizations, and other military service organizations to capture key stakeholders and audiences.
  • Reviewing and developing public affairs related policy and guidance.
  • Resolving complex issues such, as national and international media events, as well as developing command plans, handling media and public calls on missions unique to TUSAFB.
  • Ensuring all community relations products and messaging are consistent, relevant, and nested in Department of Army and Department of Defense policies and procedures.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized Experience is defined as: planning and directing a public affairs program or public affairs initiatives, establishing and maintaining professional partnerships, using the most expedient, effective, and technologically advanced avenues to communicate information, and serving as a subject matter expert on community relations and outreach. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
