About the Position:

You will serve as a Director of Religious Education for the Religious Support Office, Installation Management Command, Joint Base Lewis Mc-Chord, Religious Support office ensuring soldiers, reservists, civilians, and family members are afforded religious education programs to exercise their religious beliefs.
This is an Excepted Service appointment. If a current federal employee with career or career conditional status is hired for this position the employee will be required to sign a memo of understanding prior to being converted to the excepted service.
Army employees who currently hold Schedule A Excepted Service Religious Education positions must submit a copy of their current SF50 (Notification of Personnel Action) that reflects the highest grade held on a permanent basis.

MISSION: The JBLM chaplain staff oversees and operates nine chapels, and performs or provides a variety of religious services for the Soldiers and Airmen at JBLM: Liturgical, Traditional, Gospel and Contemporary. We have a very active Roman Catholic religious program, as well as Jewish, Islam, Buddhist and Wiccan services.

Duties

Help

  • Responsible for establishing and implementing the religious education goals, objectives, and programs. May be responsible for development of material(s) to supplement existing curriculum and to interpret higher headquarters guidelines.
  • Maintain contact and liaison with religious leaders, consultants, contractors, and/or business executives in a moderately unstructured setting. Participates with other community congregations to plan programs, training, or marketing of events.
  • Provide guidance in matters of religious education, youth ministry, and overall religious programs.
  • Assess/administer budget resources in support of all religious education programs and training.
  • Responsible for identifying cutting-edge religious education and youth ministry resources and trends.
  • Develop marketing for religious education, youth ministry, and faith-based services for the installation.
  • Serve as focal point for policies and practices involving programs and services.
  • Provide training and mentoring of religious education, and youth ministry.
  • Administer religious educator life cycle for continuing professional development.
  • Coordinate annual installation-level training conference for religious education and youth ministry personnel.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. I have a Masters Degree in Religious Education or its equivalent from an accredited graduate school, and 5 years of documented professional experience leading a religious education program. This education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. (NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts. Failure to do so will result in loss of consideration.)
-OR-
I have a graduate degree (Masters Degree) in any discipline other than religious education which must include a minimum of 24 documented graduate credits in religious education theory and practice or spiritual formation - AND - a minimum of 5 years of full time documented professional experience leading a religious education program. This education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. (NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts.)

In accordance with AR 165-1 Certification. The Chief of Chaplains (CCH) requires that only applicants who have been certified at a grade equivalent to or higher than the stated grade of the position will be considered fully qualified applicants.
