Selection may be made at the developmental GS-09 level, GS-11 level, or the full performance GS-12 level. At the developmental level, you will perform substantially some of the same duties as the full performance level, but you will perform in a training capacity and under closer than normal supervision.
Analyze GIS data to produce final products.
Perform geographic projects in support of planning, engineering, construction, and/or operations and maintenance.
Review reports, documents, records, data, or other materials to verify completeness, consistency or compliance of written work.
Make recommendations on appropriate GIS and/or photogrammetric mapping production techniques to be utilized.
Ensure geodatabase information is correctly linked to appropriate mapping elements so analyzes can be performed.
Convert data from various formats, such as graphic, nongraphic, and hard copy media, to electronic formats.
Evaluate availability or adequacy of existing digital data generated by others, such as Government agencies, private entities, and learning institutions, for utilization in assigned projects.
Prepare professional presentations or reports on a variety of activities, such as bathymetric modeling, aerial photography interpretations, map analysis, spatial analysis, and/or environmental reports.
Review reports, documents, records, data, or other materials to verify completeness, consistency or compliance of written work.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Basic Requirement: Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in at least one of the following occupational fields:

For the GS-09 level: One year of specialized experience which includes development and production of geospatial data and maps; and working on projects in a team-based environment. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such a Geographer, Biologist, Ecologist, Soil Scientist, Environmental Engineer, Physical Scientist, Hydrologist or a Cartographer.

A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.
For the GS-11 level: One year of specialized experience which includes knowledge of technical support in the application of GIS and Remote Sensing technologies for a range of multi-disciplinary projects. Performs a variety of cartographic tasks in the development of digital data bases, data analysis, and the creation of usable map products and reports. Assists with the day to day management of the GIS hardware and software to help minimize system down-time.This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).

Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as a: Geographer, Biologist, Ecologist, Soil Scientist, Environmental Engineer, Physical Scientist, Hydrologist or a Cartographer.

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. The incumbent analyzes the GIS requirements and develops applicable procedures, specifications, guides, and standards; provides technical control, quality assurance, and oversight of GIS products.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
