What General Information Do I Need To Know About This Position?

This is a temporary appointment not to exceed 1 year that may be extended for 1 additional year without further competition.

Salary: $32,844 (Step 01) to $42,702 (Step 10); NOTE: First time hires to the Federal Government are typically hired at the Step 01.

Help

As an ARCHIVES TECHNICIAN within the SOUTHWEST BIOLOGICAL SCIENCE CENTER, some of your specific duties will include:

-Digitizing historic photographs and other archival documents using Adobe Photoshop.
-Creating keyword-searchable files using established file-naming conventions.
-Organizing and creating inventory of photographic images.
-Fulfilling requests for image data as well as other documentation.
-Safely handling and storing sensitive and fragile research material using proper archival practices.

Qualifications

If you are qualifying based on specialized experience, you must meet the requirements listed below:

ARCHIVES TECHNICIAN, GS-1421

For GS-05:

Applicants must meet one of the following to qualify for the GS-5 level: One year of specialized experience in or directly related to this position that equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position. To be creditable, the required specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-04 level in the Federal service. Example of GS-4 level work: Performs a full range of assignments consisting of related steps, processes or methods; responses differ in nature and sequence; requires knowledge of an organization's programs and operations, rules and processes. Exercises initiative in completing recurring assignments; uses judgment in selecting appropriate guidelines and procedures from among a number of specific references.

OR

Education: Successfully completed 4 years of education above the high school level in any field.

OR

Combining Education and Experience: For GS-05 - Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
  • Education completed in colleges or universities outside the United States may be used to meet the above requirements. You must provide acceptable documentation that the foreign education is comparable to that received in an accredited educational institution in the United States.
