Help

The successful selectee will perform the following duties:

  • Use hand tools to make a forced entry in a rescue operation.
  • Use medical equipment (e.g., semi-automatic defibrillation device, cervical spine collars, back boards, hydraulic rescue tools) in providing emergency services.
  • Identify, collect, and interpret hazards of known and unknown hazardous materials involved.
  • Perform structural firefighting and rescue duties in buildings, housing units, or confined spaces to eliminate and control fires.

Requirements:

Generally, current Federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level. This requirement is called time-in-grade. All qualifications and time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement and clearly documented in your resume.

This is a firefighter position. This position is a Primary Firefighter position and is covered under Special Firefighter Retirement. Title 5 U.S.C. 3307 authorizes the head of an agency to establish a maximum entry age for the original appointment of individuals to the position of primary firefighter. For initial appointments, applicants cannot have reached their 37th birthday by date of appointment. An applicant reentering into a Primary Firefighter position may have the maximum entry age adjusted based on prior covered Firefighter federal service. Applicants who are entitled to veteran's preference may be eligible for a waiver to the maximum entry age requirement. Selectee will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.

Must be able to obtain an interim and/or final SECRET security clearance prior to entrance on duty AND must be able to maintain the required level of clearance while employed in the subject position. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.

Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

Selectee must obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver's license.

Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if the applicant fails to report to the scheduled drug test appointment. Incumbents of drug testing designated positions will be subject to random testing. Drug test results will be provided to the employing activity/command.

GS-6
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-5 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Controlling or extinguishing fires as a member or an organized military, industrial, volunteer, or governmental fire department; 2) Performing rescue operations; 3) Detecting, reducing, or eliminating potential fire hazards; and 4) Performing emergency first aid.

***This position requires the incumbent to possess the following certifications for the GS-06: Firefighter I and II, HAZMAT Awareness and Operations, and possess health care provider certification. These certifications must have been awarded by DoD, IFSAC or ProBoard to meet the requirement. If you do not possess all of the above certifications and you have not attached copies of your certifications, you will be rated ineligible.

GS-7
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-6 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Controlling or extinguishing fires as a member or an organized military, industrial, volunteer, or governmental fire department; 2) Performing structural rescue operations; 3) Detecting, reducing, or eliminating potential fire hazards; 4) Operating firefighting apparatuses and equipment in response to emergencies; 5) Responding to hazardous materials incidents; and 6) Performing non-invasive emergency medical procedures.

***This position requires the incumbent to possess the following certifications for the GS-07: Firefighter I and II, HAZMAT Awareness, Operations, and Technician and possess state Emergency Medical Technician - Basic Life Support (EMT-B) certification.
