This is an Excepted Service Appointment. If a current federal employee with career or career conditional status is hired for this position, the employee will be required to sign a memorandum of understanding prior to being converted to the excepted service.

About the Surrounding Area:
This position is located in Southwest Oklahoma and historic Fort Sill. Nestled in the historic American Southwest, the Fort Sill area boasts numerous attractions, expanding/affordable housing, quality school districts and ready access to shopping/dining. Lawton/Fort Sill is surrounded by a national treasure, the Wichita Wildlife Refuge. There are thousands of acres for hiking and open ranges for buffalo, elk, longhorn and other wildlife. For those desiring a big city atmosphere, Oklahoma City is only 70 minutes from Fort Sill and Dallas/Fort Worth is only 3 hours away.

Duties

Help

  • Responsible for comprehensive Religious Education program for all specific faith groups at the USAG Fort Sill; operating as the garrison chaplain's key resource person in the area of religious education and religious formation.
  • Ensures that soldiers, reservists, authorized civilians, and family members are afforded religious educational programs, which allow them to exercise their religious beliefs regardless of faith group.
  • Advise Garrison Chaplain on multiple faith groups for Installation matters of religious education and youth ministry.
  • Provide guidance and direction for religious program design, curriculum and resource selection, teaching training, management of volunteers, and administration of the religious education program for all religious group.
  • Directs and coordinates a full scope of functions and activities to include instruction, curriculum development and evaluation, logistics, and advising the installations Chaplain on religious issues, needs, and solutions.
  • Develop curriculum, theological instruction, teacher training and volunteer requirements for the full range of specific faiths.
  • Assess religious education and resource needs and deficits of various groups such as junior enlisted personnel, young married couples, NCOs, officers, military civilians, family members, DOD contractors, and retirees through use of surveys, questionnaires, and through personal community involvement in order to meet the needs of religious education programming across the Installation.
  • Create marketing and advertising products for the comprehensive religious education program to include unit, installation, seasonal, special and congregational events and youth ministry opportunities.
  • Serves as installation focal point and liaison for policies and practices in religious education and youth ministries  with installation directorates and higher headquarters.

The Chief of Chaplains requires that only applicants who have been certified at a grade level equivalent to or higher than the stated grade of this position or those currently serving in a validated Army RE position will be considered fully qualified.

Qualifications

The Chief of Chaplains requires that Candidates meet the following minimum qualifications (See AR-165-1).

Director, Religious Education, GS-1701-11

Masters Degree in Religious Education and a minimum of 5 years documented professional experience conducting Religious Education programs. This education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. *You must submit a copy of your transcripts. Failure to do so will result in loss of consideration.
OR
Masters Degree (in any discipline) with a minimum of 24 graduate credits in Religious Education and a minimum of 5 years of documented professional experience conducting Religious Education programs. This education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. *You must submit a copy of your transcripts. Failure to do so will result in loss of consideration.

Director, Religious Education, GS-1701-12

Masters Degree in Religious Education and 5 years of full time experience, conducting Religious Education programs while serving as an Army Director of Religious Education, GS 1701-11. This education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. *You must submit a copy of your transcripts. Failure to do so will result in loss of consideration.
OR
Masters Degree (in any discipline) with a minimum of 24 graduate credits in Religious Education and a minimum of 5 years of documented professional religious education experience conducting Religious Education programs. Best qualified applicants must show in their resume that they have experience which has provided the following:

  • Religious Education Program Management and Administration.
  • Religious Education Course and curriculum development, evaluation, and selection for all denominations and faith groups.
  • Knowledge of multi-faith religious requirements and religious education program awareness and coordination
  • Religious developmental theory and basic principles of faith formation.
  • Experience designing spiritual formation venues for children, youth, adults, and intergenerational groupings.
  • Coordination of Youth Ministries.
  • Religious education volunteer teacher/leader training experience.
  • Religious volunteer management experience.
