NSF is relocating to Alexandria, Virginia. In late summer of 2017, NSF will begin the transition from its current location in Arlington, VA to 2415 Eisenhower Avenue, Alexandria, VA 22314. The new location is adjacent to a Metro station (Eisenhower Avenue on the Yellow Line) and there is ample parking in the area. There are several amenities nearby, such as restaurants, hotels, and shops.
The National Science Foundation (NSF) is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the position of Program Director in the Directorate for Geosciences (GEO), Division of Earth Sciences (EAR). EAR’s Education and Human Resources Program (E&HR) facilitates activities that engage a wide range of audiences in Earth Sciences research efforts, which are:
1) Research Experiences for Undergraduates and Teachers: This program provides funding to Universities and Marine Laboratories that allows them to offer summer internships to undergraduate students who would like to participate in earth sciences related research efforts.
2) Broadening Participation portfolio: These activities support students and researchers traditionally underrepresented in Earth Sciences professional development and research activities.
3) EAR Postdoctoral Fellowships: The Division of Earth Sciences (EAR) awards 2-year Postdoctoral Fellowships to highly qualified investigators within 3 years of obtaining their PhD to carry out an integrated program of independent research and education.
The Division of Earth Sciences supports proposals for research geared toward improving the understanding of the structure, composition, and evolution of the Earth; the life it supports; and the processes that govern the formation and behavior of the Earth’s materials. The results of this research will create a better understanding of the Earth’s changing environments, and the natural distribution of its mineral, water, biota, and energy resources and provide methods for predicting and mitigating the effects of geologic hazards such as earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, floods, and landslides. In addition, the Division administers programs in support of education and outreach as well as basic research, facilities, and a wide spectrum of other scientific activities.
