About the Position:
White Sands Missile Range is a unique tri-service facility for test, evaluation, research, and assessment of military systems and commercial products. We offer a broad assortment of testing capabilities and infrastructure, from management of the largest open-air/over-land missile range in the hemisphere to environmental testing chambers and computer modeling laboratories. We are an active military installation that maintains a high quality of life for customers, partners, and the workforce. The range is located in the Tularosa Basin of south-central New Mexico 30 miles east of Las Cruces, New Mexico, and 45 miles north of El Paso, Texas. Help

As Electronic Telecommunication Systems Installer/Repairer you will:

  • Survey, design, prepare drawings and bills-of-material, install, align, troubleshoot, repair, and provide procedures for future maintenance, requirements of major electronics systems.
  • Perform systems interfacing; devise and align interlocking signals within prototype and standard equipment to create a functioning system; calibrate and perform operational tests on electronic/electromechanical switching systems to ensure proper functioning; perform alignments to accommodate system modifications.
  • Formulate optimum technical approach which requires extensive practical knowledge of electronic equipment and systems.
  • Install, prewire, and wire telecommunications systems and equipment; fabricate and connect multipair and coaxial interface cabling for use in the installation of telecommunications systems and equipment.
  • Fabricate prototype wiring harnesses for inter/cross connects. Perform modifications, configuration, and testing on partial or completed systems.

Qualifications

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Electronic Telecommunication Systems Installer/Repairer~ without more than normal supervision. Perform the common Electronic Telecommunication System Installer/Repairer tasks including performing operational testing on electronic equipment. Install, maintain and repair a variety of electronic equipment and systems. Work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

    Work assignments require standing, climbing, bending, and on occasion, working in cramped, uncomfortable, and awkward positions for extended periods of time. The incumbent lifts and handles objects weighing up to 40 pounds and occasionally may be required to lift heavier objects.
  • Working Conditions
    Inside work is normally performed within a well-lighted, heated, and ventilated area. Outside tasks are usually accomplished in good weather, however, the incumbent is expected on occasion to perform under adverse weather conditions. There is a continuous exposure to cuts, bruises, broken bones, and serious burns resulting from electric shock. May require use of protective clothing or equipment as authorized by the WSMR Safety Office.
