As the Deputy Assistant Inspector General for Investigations , Attorney Advisor, Field Operations, you will be responsible for using a demonstrated understanding of or familiarity with the workings of the Department of Veterans Affairs to:
- Provides expert legal advice and guidance consistent with applicable law and the interpretations there of by VA’s General Counsel, on issues relating to the conduct of OIG criminal and administrative investigations, and other initiatives designed to prevent or detect inefficiency, waste, fraud, abuse and mismanagement in VA programs and operations.
- Provides legal guidance regarding investigations into allegations of patient abuse, drug diversion, theft of VA pharmaceuticals and medical equipment, false claims for health care benefits, bribery, kickbacks, bid rigging, antitrust violations, false claims submitted by contractors, theft of information technology equipment and data, network intrusions, identity theft, child pornography, and criminal activities by VA employees.
- Maintains continuing liaison with other OIGs, the Department of Justice, the Government Accountability Office, and other Federal law enforcement agencies to keep abreast of new developments, share information on matters of mutual interest, and coordinate investigative activities. Represents the IG on committees, taskforces and roundtables sponsored by the Council of the Inspectors General for Integrity and Efficiency, the Department of Justice, and other Federal law enforcement and oversight organizations.
- Keeps the Inspector General (IG), Deputy IG, and the AlGI informed about sensitive or controversial investigations, particularly those of potential interest to Congress, the VA Secretary, or the news media. Briefs senior VA officials and congressional staff when appropriate.
Current career Senior Executives, QRB-certified graduates of SES candidate development programs, and individuals with SES reinstatement eligibility are not required to address the executive core qualifications. They are required to address the technical qualifications. All other applicants are required to address both the executive core qualifications and the technical qualifications.
Education Requirements: Applicants must possess a Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited law school and bar membership.
The education generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
