Help

The work of the position involves the following: You will be performing a variety of warehousing duties that include receiving, processing, storing and issuing. You will spot conveyances at proper loading locations, open seals and doors, tally stock in, palletize, assemble in temporary or permanent warehousing area. You will assume custodial and property responsibility for stock as it is initially received, checked, assembled, and internally transferred to another area. You will perform temporary space planning of item location within a general storage and assembly plan. You will consolidate materials for maximum space utilization and traffic flow and make routine changes in stock location as necessary.

  • This is a Term position. Term positions are filled for a period of more than one year and may be extended for a total of 6 years.
  • Noncompetitive conversion to career-conditional or career appointment may be made without further competition.
  • May require serving as a member of the Departure/Arrival Airfield Control Group (DAACG). Work may involve shift work, weekends, or holidays.

Qualifications

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).  You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

SCREEN OUT ELEMENT: Your resume must indicate your ability to do the work of a Materials Handler (MVO/FLO) WG-6907-06 without more than normal supervision, applicants must meet this screen out element to be considered further.

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the work of a Materials Handler.

To meet the basic eligibility, you must receive at least two points on the screen-out element indicated above and must have an average of two points on all the job elements listed below.  Your application will be further evaluated to determine if you meet the best qualified cut-off for referral to the selecting official.

Job Elements: In addition to the screen out element, applicants will be rated against the following elements:

PHYSICAL EFFORT: Stands, stoops, bends, and works in tiring and uncomfortable positions. May be required to work at a rapid pace for prolonged periods. Frequently lifts and carries material weighing up to 50 pounds, and at times may handle items weighing over 50 pounds with assistance. Moderate physical effort is used in operating fork lift and motor vehicle hand and foot controls.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Works inside and outside subject to heat, cold, damp, drafty, or poorly lit areas. May work on open docks or in storage areas or yards. Work may be dirty, dusty, and/or greasy. Frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes and bruises; falls from ladders; or injury from material handling or fork lift equipment. May be required to wear protective clothing such as steel toe shoes, safety glasses, gloves, hard hat, etc.

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify.  For this job education is not creditable, you must qualify on experience alone.
