Summary

This position is located in the Department of Defense (DoD) Office of Inspector General (OIG), Mission Support Team (MST), Chief Information Office (CIO) and is located in Alexandria, VA. The incumbent is an Information Technology Specialist in the Systems Integration Division, responsible for network servers, appliances, mail, and backup and client mission critical systems that require operational readiness at all times and that are part of the OIG classified (SIPRNET and JWICS) and unclassified networks located at OIG headquarters and in the field.

Duties

Help

Duties as an IT Specialist (Network) include but are not limited:

  • Manages and performs work necessary to configure, install, image, test and conduct the day-to-day functions of network blade servers, appliances, and backup and client management systems.
  • Manages OIG's Information Technology Projects to ensure that established milestones are accomplished on time, within prescribed funding parameters, and in accordance with business objectives.  Manages IT projects through the entire project lifecycle; applies knowledge, skills, tools, and techniques to project activities to meet requirements, and to maintain control of project time, scope, and costs.  Monitors and reports on the status of work; reviews completed work to ensure that priorities, deadlines, and quality have been met.

  • Analyzes and resolves technical problems. Analyzes and determines the requirements to establish redundancy in network services, both hardware and software, to ensure that services are quickly restored in the event of a failure.

  • Ensures that user network and e-mail accounts and resources are properly created and maintained.  Responds to user and systems moves and migrations.

NOTE:  Must be able to obtain and maintain IAT Level II certifications within 6 months of hire if not already obtained.

Position has been designated as Special Sensitive; incumbent is required to obtain and maintain a Top Secret/SCI security clearance.  

Incumbent is required to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment and is subject to random drug testing for the duration of service with DoD OIG.

U.S. Citizenship is required for this position.

Requires 5% of temporary duty travel (TDY).

Permanent Change of Duty (PCS—Relocation) expenses WILL NOT be paid.

If you have not previously successfully completed a probationary period with the Federal Government in a similar position, you will be required to serve a two year probationary period.

Qualifications

To meet the basic requirement, applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12. Specialized Experience is defined as:  Providing business collaboration service management, server operating systems administration and business requirements; applying IT principles, methods, and practices to define, plan and manage complex large-scale multi-phased IT projects; utilizing Windows operating platforms (Windows Server, SharePoint, and desktop services) to manage business or engineering systems on large-scale, mid-tier or web-based systems; and serving as a systems administrator on application problems involving the integration and customization of COTS (Commercial Off the Shelf) products.

Candidates will be further evaluated on the level and quality of their experience and possession of the following relevant competencies in order to determine the level of your qualifications. These competencies include:
 

Competencies:

  • Experience in configuring, deploying, managing and administering various hardware platforms
  • Experience in the management of remote control, administration and imaging systems
  • Experience in the management of complex information technology projects
  • Experience in Microsoft Servers and client software
  • Experience with SIPRNET classified network in an active directory environment
  • Knowledge of anti-virus and intrusion detection methods and software to manage systems
  • Skill in written communication
  • Skill in verbal communication

Applicants who have held a non-temporary General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must meet the Time in Grade Restriction.

All qualification and Time in Grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.

There is no substitution of education for experience at this level.
