As a Certified Deaf Interpreter Technical Specialist in FEMA's Reservist Program, some of the duties you will be responsible for include:
Providing interpreting, translation, and transliteration services in American Sign Language and other visual and tactual communication forms used by individuals who are deaf, hard-of-hearing, and deaf-blind.
Delivering translation services for all FEMA programs and services during response and recovery for disasters to ensure programs and services are integrated and fully accessible to survivors with disabilities and other individuals with access and functional needs.
Engaging and facilitating the active involvement of local and state disability services agencies and organizations and advocacy groups.
Providing guidance and technical assistance regarding transcribing speech to text in meetings, conference calls and other event settings.
You must be a U.S. citizen to be considered for this position.
You must successfully pass a background investigation.
Travel will be required.
You must be able to obtain and maintain a Government credit card.
Selective service registration is required for males born after 12/31/59.

To qualify for this position, you must possess ALL of the following:
Minimum three (3) years of experience providing American Sign Language (ASL) interpreting for the disability community and service delivery programs; and
Active and valid Certified Deaf Interpreter (CDI) certification by the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID).
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g. Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills, and provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

All candidates must be able to deploy with little or no advance notice to anywhere in the United States and its territories for an extended period of time. Deployments may include working in excess of eight hours a day, or in excess of 40 hours in a given week, including weekends and holidays, and under stressful, physically demanding, and austere conditions.
