Summary

The mission of the Fleet and Family Readiness (FFR) Programs team is to maximize the physical, emotional and social development of the Navy family. FFR enables a ready Navy force through its Fleet Readiness, Family Readiness and Housing Programs. We service all non-appropriated fund (NAF) employees who work for Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR), Navy Gateway Inns & Suites (NGIS) and Bachelor Housing (BH) throughout the Fleet and Family Readiness Program for the Naval District Washington (NDW) Region.

Duties

Help

Incumbent provides a comprehensive training program to CYP employees, assists with implementation of a developmentally appropriate curriculum for children ranging in ages from 6 weeks to 12 years in a military day care, and promotes school readiness. Duties and responsibilities can be grouped into categories, including:  Training: conducts new employee orientation; provides Department of the Navy Standardized Module training; establishes training schedules; provides information on college level education to staff; ensures completion and documentation of all training.  Classroom/Program Support: Ensures curriculum is implemented; conducts observations of staff and children and provides feedback; works with direct care staff to evaluate classroom needs, and makes appropriate toy, material, and equipment recommendations to Director; maintains resource library for staff; reviews lesson plans; assists in parent education/participation programs.   Compliance: Provides support and ensures compliance of policies.  Incumbent assists in maintaining NAEYC accreditation and may also assume responsibilities of the CYP Director in his/her absence.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:This position is subject to special inoculation and immunization requirements as a condition of employment for working with children.  Employee is required to obtain appropriate immunization against communicable diseases in accordance with recommendations from the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), which includes the influenza vaccine.  Must pass a pre-employment physical with ability to lift up to 40 lbs, provide evidence of immunization, and be free from communicable disease.  Position is subject to both pre-employment and random drug testing as a condition of employment. A positive drug test, or failure to submit for testing, may become the basis for removal from this position. Incumbents must satisfactorily complete all background checks, including a NACI.  Must satisfactorily obtain or complete required training certificates and maintain certifications/credentials. Child Development Centers are open 5:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.  The incumbent must be available to work within the hours of operation.

Qualifications

All levels require incumbent to be at least 18 years of age with a high school diploma or equivalent; speak, read, and write English; satisfactorily complete local and national background checks, including a NACI; lift up to 40 lbs, pass a pre-employment physical, provide evidence of immunization, and be free from communicable disease; and complete all training requirements.  Incumbents must also have the ability to follow verbal and written instructions. In addition to the above.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Incumbent must have one of the following:

1. A 4-year degree in Early Childhood Education or related field AND 3 years of full time experience working with children/youth

OR

2. A Master’s degree in related field of study AND minimum of 1 year professional experience working with children

OR

3. A combination of education and experience – courses equivalent to a major in a field (24 hours) appropriate to the position, plus appropriate experience or additional course work that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study described above AND 3 years of full time experience working with children and/or youth.

In addition to one of the above, must also: communicate effectively orally and in writing in English; possess strong interpersonal skills; have the skill to develop curriculum outlines, courses of study and lesson plans; have experience in planning and conducting training workshops; and knowledge of NAEYC accreditation criteria and process.
