The Investigations Division is charged with ensuring the integrity of the top law enforcement agency in the country. The Division's special agents investigate allegations of bribery, fraud, abuse, and violations of civil rights and other laws, policies and procedures that govern DOJ employees, contractors and grantees. Working with prosecutors, the special agents develop cases for criminal prosecution and for civil or administration action. The Division's Special Agents have statutory law enforcement to carry firearms, make arrests, serve subpoenas and seek and execute arrest and search warrants.

This position is located in the Cyber Investigations Office (CIO) located in Arlington, VA under the Investigations Division.

Duties

Help

If you are selected as a Lead Information Technology Specialist, your responsibilities would include, but would not be limited to:

Serve as the Lead IT Specialist overseeing all active evidence collection/network investigations utilizing the OIG's network collection server; serves as subject matter expert for all eDiscovery applications; and tests connections.

Oversees quality control/assurance matters and analyze, design, develop, customize, and implement a wide range of complex hardware and software to support the labs LAN system including protocols, communications controllers, bridges, routers, and other network devices that support extensive operations; provides mentorship and on the job training to a junior staff member regarding the eDiscovery server, collections, conditions and production.

Conducts difficult and sensitive computer forensic investigations that involve problems not previously encountered; provides digital forensic support through the scientific analysis of electronic evidence; advises investigative, intelligence, and prosecution personnel in matters relating to computer forensic; and provides expert testimony in Federal and state court.

Assists special agents in the investigations into intrusions of systems or fraud, waste and abuse within programs where a computer or other electronic means is used in the commission of a crime.

Manage an undercover network and a forensic network by maintaining all security patches, intrusion detection systems, the world-wide-web and email servers.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade level (or equivalent).

Qualifications

To qualify for this position at the GS-14 grade level, you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level obtained in the public sector. (Specialized experience is paid or unpaid experience which has equipped you with the specific knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.) Examples of specialized experience include such duties as: conducting complex computer and mobile forensic investigations; providing digital forensic support through scientific analysis of electronic evidence; manage both undercover and forensic networks, maintaining all security patches, intrusion detection systems, web, email and servers; serve as senior technical advisor regarding the operation and development of IT related issues; and testifies before Grade Juries, courts of law, or administrative hearings in support of forensic examinations, opinions, or other investigative matters.
