Summary

This position is located within the Department of Defense (DoD), Office of Inspector General (OIG), Mission Support Team (MST), Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) and is located in Alexandria, VA.  The incumbent serves as an IT Specialist in the Systems Integration Division, responsible for the administration, support, configuration, and optimization of the OIG business collaboration service and supporting systems on the OIG classified and unclassified networks.

Duties

Help

Duties as an IT Specialist (Sys Admin) include but are not limited to: 
1. Manages the OIG business collaboration service and system(s) that directly support this service.  Configures, maintains, and supports the business collaboration system(s) and ensures all service level agreements (SLA) are met.  Manages systems resources including performance, capacity, availability, serviceability and recoverability.  Manages the application of security and information assurance policies, principles and procedures and industry best practices in the delivery of business collaboration service and associated system(s).
2. Identifies the need for and conducts regular maintenance of the business collaboration systems, including minor upgrades and software patching.  Ensures systems are properly backed up and services can be fully restored within timelines identified in the SLA. Manages secondary non-critical services and associated systems as assigned.
3. Analyzes and resolves complex technical problems and trouble calls associated with the OIG business collaboration service and supporting systems.  Ensures that problems are resolved within accepted OIG performance metrics for timeliness and quality of service. Ensures all issues are resolved or mitigated within timelines designated in SLA.
4. May lead teams or groups of IT professionals in systems administration.  May provide oversight of contract resources, managing assigned contractors to meet contract requirements, evaluating performance and ensuring appropriate return on investment.

NOTE:  Must be able to obtain and maintain IAT Level II certifications within 6 months of hire if not already obtained.

Position has been designated as Non-critical Sensitive; incumbent is required to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.  

Incumbent is required to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment and is subject to random drug testing for the duration of service with DoD OIG.

U.S. Citizenship is required for this position.

Requires 5% of temporary duty travel (TDY).

Permanent Change of Duty (PCS—Relocation) expenses WILL NOT be paid.

If you have not previously successfully completed a probationary period with the Federal Government in a similar position, you will be required to serve a two year probationary period.

Qualifications

One year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade within the federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required.   

GS-13
You must have 52 weeks of specialized experience at the GS-12 grade level:  Specialized Experience is defined as:  demonstrated experience: (1) providing business collaboration service management, server operating systems administration and business requirements; (2) applying IT principles, methods, and practices to define, plan and manage complex large-scale multi-phased IT projects; (3) utilizing Windows operating platforms (Windows Server, SharePoint, SQL Server and desktop services) to manage business or engineering systems on large-scale, mid-tier or web-based systems; and (4) serving as a systems administrator on application problems involving the integration and customization of COTS (Commercial Off the Shelf) products.

Candidates will be further evaluated on the level and quality of their experience and possession of the following relevant competencies in order to determine the level of your qualifications. These competencies include:
 

Competencies:

  • Knowledge of Business Collaboration Systems
  • Skill in the design, implementation, support, configuration, and optimization of business collaborations systems
  • Knowledge of the building and configuration of customized Microsoft Office SharePoint Server portals
  • Knowledge in the installation, configuration, and support of Multiple Servers
  • Experience developing and providing training
  • Understanding of Microsoft Operating Systems (OS)
  • Information Assurance (IAT) Certification
  • Use of Microsoft Office applications
  • Communication skills
  • Working independently
  • Aptitude for learning and utilizing new technologies

Applicants who have held a non-temporary General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must meet the Time in Grade Restriction.
