Duties

Help

  • Review all assigned reports and other written materials for consistency of mechanics and expression, logical organization and development, and general readability.
  • Adjust as required, report tone and style to be suitable for the intended audience.
  • Recommends new presentation formats to ensure that material is presented clearly and with no possibility for misunderstanding. Ensure complete and cogent presentation of the subject. As necessary, rewrites significant portions of reports to ensure appropriate final presentation.
  • Recommends and discusses with the author(s) editorial changes designed to enhance the clarity of the information, grammatical accuracy, and consistency of the data. Ensure clarity and correctness of spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
  • Advises clients of any changes in style or format requirements and disseminates current policy. Provides recommendations to whether reports are written in a way in which findings support recommendations, support overall report conclusions, and that conclusions correspond to objectives. Verify the accuracy of calculations, references, footnotes, acronyms, etc.
  • Develops and provides training to advise writers on how to recognize and correct common errors and weaknesses in writing. Collects examples of current problems observed, identifies trends, and summarizes information for dissemination to all appropriate levels.

Qualifications

One year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade within the federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required.

Specialized Experience includes: writing, reviewing, and editing materials such as reports, regulations, articles, newsletters, magazines, news releases, training materials, brochures, interpretive handbooks, pamphlets, guidebooks, scholarly works, reference works, speeches or scripts, to ensure clarity, spelling, grammar and punctuation; the work requires developing, analyzing and gathering information on specific topics and presenting the material in a way that is appropriate and understandable to the intended audience; presenting documentation by following specific styles and formats (such as MLA, APA, etc.); write and edit speeches; analyze the impact of new, revised, and proposed legislation, Executive Orders and/or policy changes for application to potential speeches and written reports.

Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

Education is not substitutable for specialized experience for this grade level.
