Summary

This position is located in the Office of Information Technology (OIT), Management & Planning Division (M&P), Office of the Inspector General (OIG), U.S. Department of Justice(DOJ). OIT is responsible for the OIG's Information Technology program which includes the management and design of the enterprise-wide network; implementation and management of the technical interfaces with other networks and computing platforms; evaluation, selection, installation, configuration, testing, and support of network devices and the requisite system software; maintenance and enhancement of the electronic mail (e-mail) system, handheld mobile devices, and data circuits; accomplishment of network management functions including configuration, fault location/repair, security, performance, and accounting; providing secure connections to DOJ; and the design, development, implementation, and support of agency-wide automated applications, systems, and databases.

Duties

Help

If selected for the position of Information Technology Specialist (LAN) your typical duties will include:

·         Building, configuring, deploying and managing network file servers and devices such as network storage units, network backup devices and network infrastructure, devices, and circuits,

·         Analyzing IT requirements, developing appropriate automated solutions, and providing server level application and database support.

·         Conducting system tests prior to implementation of applications,

·         Utilize a variety of analytical techniques to solve problems and provide solutions while working on IT systems,

  

·         Monitoring and preparing for migration and upgrade of legacy systems,

·         Implementing, maintaining and enhancing network security systems and related practices

  • You must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret/SCI security clearance.
  • Selective Service Registration is required, as applicable.
  • Must submit to drug test and receive a negative result before appointment

Qualifications

To qualify for the GS-14 applicants must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below on their resume.

2. Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.
3. Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
4. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.

In addition to the competencies listed above, applicants must have one year of specialized experience at the level and responsibility equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service.  Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular competencies/knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position and is typically in or related to the work of the position being filled.  Experience can be gained in the IT field or through the performance of work where the primary concern is IT.  Examples of specialized experience for this position include experience in the areas of system, server and network administration; building, configuring, deploying and managing network file servers; utilizing a variety of analytical techniques to solve problems and provide solutions; experience supporting local and wide area TCP/IP networks; implementing, maintaining and enhancing network security systems
