The AMSA plays an integral role
in identifying and developing ways to resolve problems with the administrative
and clinical staff on access, customer service, patient flow, revenue, and data
validation issues. His/her work also impacts processes, action plans,
monitoring and reporting. This is the Advanced level of the position. The incumbent serves as an Advanced Medical Support Assistant assigned to a Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) model or a Specialty Care Setting involved in a PACT model. The PACT teamlet is a primary care team that generally consists of a primary care provider (MD, NP, PA), registered nurse care manager, clinical associate (LPN or medical assistant/health technician) and an administrative associate (MSA/health technician). Major duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
The AMSA works in an inpatient or outpatient clinic setting at the Alaska VA and/or community based or rural health outpatient clinics.

Performs receptionist duties, customer service and other duties assigned for the proper and timely treatments of patients and maintains appointment schedules for one or more clinics.
·
Assist with clinic access contingency plans by adjusting appointment times/location, or dates as well as shift patients to other healthcare provides as conflict with staffing and/or coverage occurs.
·
Supports patient safety standards using the correct Veterans Affairs identification of all patients through the use of two forms of identification, name and full Social Security Number
·
Utilizes a variety of VISTA and CPRS interfacing software to conduct scheduling functions.
·
Validates and updates patient demographic information, either in person during check in or over the phone
·
Explains the VA's mandate to collect insurance information to veterans, their families, and other eligible patients. Collects, scans, and updates health insurance information serving a major role in the revenue process.
·
As front line contact with patients and staff, sets the tone for perception concerning quality of healthcare services at the VA. A high degree of tact and diplomacy is required when dealing with Veterans who have multiple health problems and who may be frustrated with the administrative process associated with diagnosis and treatment.

Schedules appointments and utilizes the Recall Reminder System, Electronic Waiting List, as well as the Veterans Choice List for the CHOICE Program, accurately and in a timely manner.
·
Record Veteran records from Community facilities as needed.
·
Notifies supervisor when clinic access is less than desirable or if an individual patient cannot be scheduled within the mandated clinic time frames.
·
The AMSA is able to independently manage position responsibilities with little supervision as well as set priorities and deadlines adjusting the flow and sequencing of the work to meet team and patient needs.

May
serve as AMSA to one or more interdisciplinary clinics for PACT, Specialty Clinics, inpatient clinic or centralized scheduling.
