Help

As a Pharmacist, you will: 

  • Serve as a professional pharmacist in an in-patient or out-patient pharmacies.
  • Compounding of prescriptions of physicians, dentists, and other licensed practitioners.
  • Formulation, preparation, bulk compounding, selection, dispensing and preservation of drugs, medicines, and chemicals.
  • Research and investigation in developing special vehicles or variations of standard formulas to meet the needs of individual patients and in developing original techniques of compounding and making available for use new investigational drugs.
  • Advise on drug therapy and usage; or performing administrative, consultative, or staff advisory work concerning the administration of a pharmacy program for hospital, clinic, or other medical care facility.

  • This position is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations. Applicants tentatively selected for appointment to this position will be required to sign a statement consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to applicant testing and random drug testing. Tentatively selected applicants will be required to sign DA Form 5019 requiring participation in random drug urinalysis testing. A job offer to an applicant who is a not a current employee will be withdrawn if the applicant refuses to be tested. Applicants with verified positive test results shall be refused employment. Applications from such individuals shall not be considered for employment for a period of 6 months from the date of the test results.
  • Successful completion of a pre-placement physical examinaton may be required.
  • Work schedule may require shift work or rotating shifts (evenings, weekends and holiday).
  • This position may be designated as Emergency Essential.
  • Position may be designated as Inclement Weather Essential. The incumbent must make every attempt to report for work on time and/or remain on duty during severe weather conditions.
  • Immunization screening may be required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
  • May be required to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) Training and certification that is sponsored or endorsed by the American Heart Association. Current Advanced Life Support or other advanced certification does not supersede BLS completion.
  • Applicants may need to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below.  Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.  Additional information about transcripts is in this document.

Degree: Successful completion of at least a four-year bachelor degree in pharmacy recognized by the American Council on Pharmaceutical Education.

Licensure/Certification: All applicants must be currently licensed to practice pharmacy in a State, a territory of the United States, or the District of Columbia.

Experience required: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. 

For GS-09: Successful completion of a 5-year course of study leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in pharmacy from an approved pharmacy school, OR one year of professional pharmacy experience equivalent to the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

For GS-11: Successful completion of a 6-year course of study leading to a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree OR one year of professional pharmacy experience equivalent to the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).

For GS-12: One year of professional pharmacy experience equivalent to the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).

For GS-13: One year of professional pharmacy experience equivalent to the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).

Medical Requirements: Applicants must be able to distinguish basic colors.

  • Selection is subject to restrictions resulting from Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees.

Medical care may be provided by host nation providers. The availability and level of care at host nation medical facilities will vary by location.
  • Movement overseas may require you to initiate a change in your health benefits plan to ensure coverage.
    Pay retention may be offered to successful applicants for positions at overseas locations. For this provision to apply to employees already overseas, the selected individual would have to require a permanent change of station move and would have to be selected as a result of a recruitment effort that had been extended outside of the overseas command involved.
