Food Service
-The employee sets up food service stations; steam tables, refrigerated counters and other side stations with hot and cold foods, including: meats, soups,
starches, vegetables, bread, salads, desserts, condiments and with proper serving utensils for both the tray-line and cafeteria line. The employee serves
food on the tray-line and/or cafeteria line placing uniform amounts onto appropriate serving plates/dishes. The employee places beverages on the patient's
tray at the end of the tray line and loads completed/checked trays into tray delivery carts. The employee transports tray delivery carts directly to
patient areas. The employee distributes trays to the patients at bedside or to tables in a day/dining room. The employee assures that the patients'
comments, complaints or requests are reported to food service supervisors or to dietitians. The employee picks up soiled trays only after the patient has
had sufficient time to eat his/her meals. Soiled trays are returned to the dishwashing area.
Sanitation
-The employee, in the dishwashing area, separates food waste and trash, sorts and stacks soiled china, trays, beverage containers, and silverware. As
appropriate, items are pre-rinsed or pre-soaked prior to placing in the dish machine. The employee, in the dishwashing area, removes sanitized tableware
and utensils placing items inappropriate storage dispensers. The employee, in the dishwashing area, maintains and monitors water and detergent levels in
the dishwasher; removes strainer pans, inspects doors, etc. for proper cleaning of the dishwasher, inside and out. Calcium deposits are removed as
required. Restores room to orderliness and cleanliness following each meal service. The employee cleans and sanitizes tray delivery carts and nourishment
delivery carts following each scheduled delivery. The employee bags refuse and transports to designated locations away from food preparation and service
areas. In the pot washing area, separates and disposes of food waste, presoaks, prewashes, washed, and sanitizes all food preparation equipment. Places
sanitized equipment/utensils in designated storage areas following pre-established guidelines to prevent cross-contamination. The employee cleans and
sanitizes serving line equipment, worktables, refrigerators, freezers, food preparation equipment, dining tables, and chairs. The employee sweeps and mops
floor between meal services. The employee washes walls, hoods, etc.
Cleans Equipment and Facility
-Oversees a variety of duties related to the maintenance and cleanliness of the area to which assigned and kitchen related equipment. Ensure thorough
cleaning of all food preparation and serving equipment and administration and work areas. Ensure cleanliness offering line to include tray railing, coffee
urn, milk machines, ice machine and glass, cup and tray dispensers. Picks up and returns soiled trays and dishes from patient's room to the kitchen after
meals when required. Unloads and scrapes trays, plates, bowls, domes, inserts and utensils for washing, assists with washing, cleans and readies delivery
cart for the next meal. Cleans and readies cart for the following meal. Wash carts, racks and other kitchen equipment in the pot and pan washer by
positioning the rack in the machine and removing them at the end of the cycle. Wash, dishes, pots and pans, either manually or by use of mechanical
equipment. Scrapes, soaks, scours, and scrubs heavier cooking utensils such as mixing bowls and pots before placing input and pan washer machine. Utilizes
prescribed sanitizing procedures to ensure hand washed equipment is clean. Ensures machines are filled properly and replenishes cleaning solution as
necessary. Removes cleansed/sanitized utensils and other kitchen ware from dishwasher racks and places them in transport and/or storage racks without
contamination. Ensures dining room is set up for service and clean after meals. Wash floors, walls, windows in kitchen, dining and storage areas, office,
hallways and latrines in accordance with sanitation standards. As required, receive delivered items from dock or unloads supply trucks, and places supplies
in proper storage area, and brings supplies to work areas
Work Schedule:
Shifts vary between 6:00 am to 2:30 pm and 11:00 am to 7:30 pm totaling 40 hours per week (Full-Time). Shifts will include working weekends and holidays.

Promotion Potential:
The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are

Physical Efforts:
The work involves heavy physical effort in frequently lifting or moving items up to forty pounds (40lbs) such as lifting bags of potatoes, containers of
milk, etc. pushing heavy carts of silverware and glassware, or moving trucks in unloading, storing, and delivering supplies. When required to lift or move
heavier items, assistance is available. The work may also involve scouring and/or scrubbing large-sized kitchen equipment. Work requires prolonged periods
of standing and walking along with frequent bending, stooping, pulling and pushing.
Working Conditions:
The work is performed in a kitchen area which frequently is hot and humid due to cooking and dishwashing activities. The work area is well lighted but
noisy from food service activities. While working in cooking areas, incumbent is subject to possibility of slipping on wet floors, skin irritation from
harsh-dishwashing liquids, burns, cuts, bruisers, and eye injury. Incumbent is also subject to varied temperature extremes while inside walk-in
refrigerator or freezer units. Incumbent must wear protective clothes, shoes, gloves, earplugs, and/or other safety and hygiene equipment as required by
food handling and safety standards when performing assigned tasks.
Qualifications
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. The potential eligibles are then rated against the remainder of the questions. The screen-out element for this position is Ability to do the job of a food service worker without more than normal supervision.
JOB ELEMENTS: Those who meet the minimum level of experience and training for the screen-out element will then be evaluated in each of the following job elements:
