Mendenhall Research Fellowship - Research Opportunity #S25: Advanced research related to geologic carbon dioxide storage.
Proposed Duty Station: Reston, VA
Areas of Ph.D.: Geology, geochemistry, hydrogeology, petroleum engineering or related fields (candidates holding a Ph.D. in other disciplines but with knowledge and skills relevant to the Research Opportunity may be considered).
(This type of research is performed by those who have backgrounds for the occupations stated above. However, other titles may be applicable depending on the applicant's background, education, and research proposal. The final classification of the position will be made by the Human Resources Specialist.)
Office work utilizing computers will be the vast majority of the work required and is primarily sedentary except for incidental periods of lifting associated with moving small computers or loading paper into printers. Office work may involve occasional exposure to a laboratory that involves risks and hazards that require safety precautions. Field work requires high risks at times. Potentially dangerous situations could be encountered at well sites should such an opportunity arise. Field work may involve exposure to moderate risks and discomforts, such as those due to: adverse weather conditions, such as high winds and low or high temperatures; and travel in safety approved small air and water craft and off-road vehicles. The employee applies a wide range of safety precautions when controlled conditions deteriorate due to unforeseen conditions or previously unknown risks.

Are There Any Special Requirements For This Position? A background investigation will be required for this position. Continued employment will be subject to the applicant's successful completion of a background security investigation and favorable adjudication. Qualifications
In order to be considered for these opportunities, candidates must: (1) have successfully completed a Ph.D. in an area described in the Research Opportunity. The Ph.D. degree requirements must have been met no earlier than February 21, 2012, and must be completed by the time employment starts; (2) meet the qualification requirements described in the Research Opportunity.
