Duties

Help

The incumbent will provide clerical and administrative support within NIST including but not limited to:

  • Processing travel authorizations and vouchers
  • Managing time and attendance
  • Purchasing equipment, supplies, and services using a bank card
  • Preparing training requests
  • Scheduling meetings
  • Registering visitors
  • Managing files
  • Serves as the principle office contact for phone calls and visitors.
  • Prepares documents, reports, and correspondence using a variety of office automation software, such as spreadsheet and word processing software.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Applicants must have one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-4 (ZS-II at NIST) level . Specialized experience is defined as office or clerical experience involved in performing basic administrative tasks in an office such as answering phones, preparing and filing documents, paying bills, tracking employees time and attendance, and setting up travel.

OR

4 years of education above high school

OR

An equivalent combination of experience and/or post-high school education

AND

Selective Factor: Applicant must be able to type 40 words per minute

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

This position allows you to qualify and be considered based on your education. A one year probationary period may be required.

This position is covered by an Alternative Personnel Management System (APMS). This system replaces the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and grade with career paths and pay bands. For information regarding how the pay bands correspond to the General Schedule, visit http://nist.gov/ohrm/apms.cfm.

You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.

*Knowledge of adminsitrative policies and procedures in areas such as travel, payroll, time and attendance, and human resources.
