    Frequently asked questions

    What's a job series?

The federal government categorizes jobs into groups or families of jobs or occupations. These groups are called a series. The series is a four-digit number system for organizing similar jobs. Related jobs will have series numbers that are closer together.

For example, medical, dental and public health jobs will have a series between 0600-0699, where nurse jobs are in the 0610 series and nursing assistant is 0621.

Which job series are included in the quiz?

The USAJOBS Career Explorer can match you with over 300 job series in the federal government.

How did you find my match?

The USAJOBS Career Explorer uses a unique approach to finding job matches for you based on your interests. Unlike most job match assessment tools which match you based on skills, competencies, eligibilities, education level or background, this aims to help you discover many different jobs which align purely with your interests.

    Why interest-based matching?

Experts believe that interest is the cornerstone of a fulfilling career. When you are genuinely interested in your job, it not only leads to greater job satisfaction but also to long-term career success.

How does the USAJOBS Career Explorer work?

Each question talks about broad activities that many jobs could include. We take your answers and correlate that with job series that you might be interested in.
