JOB SUMMARY: The purpose of this position is to supervise, direct and manage employees designing, engineering, analyzing, installing, maintaining, programming and operating Theater Air Control weapons systems comprised of sensor systems, Information Technology (IT) networks, and communications systems in both tactical and fixed base environments.

NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED. This is an excepted position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the Connecticut Air National Guard.

The major duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Plans work to be accomplished by subordinates, sets and adjusts short-term priorities, and prepares schedules for completion of work of the full range of Communications-Electronics (C-E) equipment and systems assigned.
  • Interviews candidates for positions in the unit and recommends selection of new employees for reassignment and promotion to such positions.
  • Prepares and submits budget estimates and revisions for the procurement, installation, and operation/maintenance of equipment and supply items.
  • Exercises continuing responsibility for safety conditions, procedures, and work practices employed within the branch.
  • Performs the non-supervisory work by designing, engineering, analyzing, installing, maintaining, programming and operating the equipment within their assigned career field alongside of those employees supervised.

  • National Guard Membership is required.
  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
  • Must meet Compatible Military Assignment within one year from placement.
  • Wear of the military uniform is mandatory.
  • Direct Deposit is mandatory.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance.
  • Must possess a valid state drivers license.
  • New supervisors and managers must serve a probationary period the first time they start a permanent supervisory or managerial position; the length of the supervisory or managerial probationary period is one year.

Qualifications

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience, education or training performing simple mechanical installations and adjustments. Experience which demonstrates the applicants ability to recognize obvious malfunctions. Experience using common hand tools. Experience that demonstrates the ability to follow written instructions.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Your resume and any other supporting documentation you wish to provide must clearly substantiate you currently possess 36 months of specialized experience in the following:

  • Experience, education or training in utilizing principles, basic functions and application of theory of electronic systems or equipment.
  • Experience in diagnosing problems and determining needed repairs for malfunctions in electronic equipment or systems.
  • Experience in making mechanical repairs that required the use of precision measuring and calibrating equipment.
  • Experience in using complex test equipment such as deviation meters, complex special test panels, etc.
  • Experience which demonstrates the ability to interpret technical manuals, specifications, and publications.
  • Experience in managing the function of the work to be performed.
  • Experience which includes leading, directing and assigning work of personnel.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge of electricity and electronic theory, mathematics, and elementary physics.
  • Knowledge of the capabilities, limitations, operations/design, characteristics, and functional use of a variety of types and models of electronic equipment and systems.
  • Ability to use various types of test equipment on electronic components/systems.
  • Skill in design, development, modifications and fabrications of electronic components.
  • Ability to follow layout and schematic diagrams.
  • Ability to plan and organize work.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work with others.
  • Ability to oversee and train subordinate supervisors, to deal objectively with workers and render sound supervisory decisions.
  • Ability to devise new methods.

COMPATIBLE MILITARY ASSIGNMENT: All applications will be considered regardless of Branch/AOC/FA/AFSC. Incumbent will be required to be assigned to compatible military position within 1 year of selection. The selected individual may be required to attend formal technician school training.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: This position requires a security clearance (secret) which the applicant must possess or be able to obtain a clearance within one year of appointment. For positions requiring the operation of motor vehicles, candidates must have a valid state driver's license for the state in which they live or are principally employed.

Education

No substitution of education for specialized experience.

For M-Day/Traditional personnel who are currently receiving incentives to include Bonuses and the Student Loan Repayment Program, the following termination rule applies:

Incentive Termination without Recoupment: If you accept a Military Technician (Mil Tech) Permanent position where membership in the National Guard is a condition of employment, your bonus will be terminated with no recoupment as long as you have served at least 6 months of the bonus contract following receipt of the initial bonus payment.
