Duties

Help

The major duties include but are not limited to:

  • Assigns staff for duties on a daily and a project-by-project basis;
  • Coordinates work with supervisors of other services within the assigned area of jurisdiction so as not to interrupt patient care or other activities;
  • Cleans all patient areas and corridor spaces throughout the medical center, operating rooms, and all other areas as assigned;
  • Ensures the efficient and economical accomplishment of work assignments of subordinates within established policies and schedules;
  • Plans and schedules daily and weekly assignments, taking into consideration the availability of personnel and equipment to meet established priorities;
  • Trains staff to ensure the use of patient centered care principles in terms of customer service to patients, family members, and personnel;
  • Provides on-the job training for subordinates and new employees as individual needs dictate;
  • Keeps subordinates abreast of proper methods, procedures, and uses of equipment and supplies;
  • Controls the use of supplies and equipment to affect cost control within the unit;
  • Conducts in-use testing of equipment and/or supplies, providing feedback in regard to their observations;
  • Ensures all safety regulations and procedures are observed and may on occasion be required to conduct training classes on specific safety issues;
  • Supervises the daily distribution of uniforms and textiles to the designated areas and persons and ensures record keeping is timely and accurate;
  • Approves leave requests for subordinates, counsels employees, and recommends disciplinary action to a higher-level supervisor whenever non-compliance with policy warrants;
  • Makes formal appraisals of subordinates works performance and conduct;
  • Inspects assigned areas to assure the timely accomplishment of employee assignments, sanitation levels are maintained, equipment properly cared for, and that associated housekeeping objectives are accomplished in an expedient and timely manner; and,
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 3:00 p.m. - 11:30 p.m.

Qualifications

Physical Effort and Work Conditions: Continuous standing, bending, stooping, working, climbing ladders, and heavy pushing when removing trash, soiled linen, mopping, wall washing, cleaning vents, light fixtures, etc. Frequently lifts or moves objects up to 50 pounds. Visual acuity must be sufficient to see dust, dirt, and cobwebs.

Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualifications. For this position, the job element method is used to match what you, the applicant, can do against what the work calls for. Your knowledge, skills and abilities will be compared to the knowledge, skills and abilities (called job elements) needed for success. Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element (WG-2 and higher only; screen-outs are not applicable to WG-1). Applicants who appear to meet the screen out element are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated from consideration. The potential eligibles are rated against the remainder of the job elements. While a specific length of training and experience is not required, your responses to the questionnaire must be supported by detailed descriptions of your experience on your resume.

Preferred Experience: The facility prefers supervisory experience in housekeeping.

Receiving Service Credit for Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed.
