Duties

Help

As a Materials Examiner and Identifier, WG-6912-07, you will perform the below duties:

  • Performs the full range of examining and identifying duties for the most complex categories of materiel and equipment, including electronic, mechanical, perishable, radioactive, and assemblies and components. Inspects, receives, sorts, counts, identifies, and is knowledgeable of special handling techniques and procedures required for the processing of hazardous and toxic materiel such as explosives, toxic chemicals, flammables, gas cylinders, radioactive material, hazardous waste and medical waste.
  • Receives or rejects materiel, equipment, including non-standard equipment, and complex assemblies for the facility based on their knowledge of products, equipment, and procedures as well as having the ability to determine subtle and inconspicuous defects.
  • Determines acceptance, serviceability and distribution requirements for perishable, classified, precious metals, textiles, clothing, complex electronic/mechanical equipment, assemblies and components.
  • Packs, cushions, apply preservatives and protect property as appropriate; ensures packaging meets regulatory requirements.
  • May serve as a member of the USPFO Emergency Response Team. Ensures the required actions are taken to contain and clean up spills within assigned work area.
  • Assures adherence to storage compatibility and determines the need for special handling/storage of certain property (e.g. friable asbestos, PCB's, batteries, pesticides, etc.).
  • Performs a full range of warehousing activities to include receiving, inspecting for defects, storing, selecting and shipping general or specialized bulk and bin materials and equipment.
  • May be required to prepare for and support the mission through the accomplishment of duties pertaining to military training, military readiness, force protection and other mission related assignments including, but not limited to, training of traditional Guard members, CWDE/NBC training, exercise participation (ORE/ORI/UCI/MEI/OCI/IG, etc.), mobility exercise participation, FSTA/ATSO exercise participation, SABC training, LOAC training, weapons qualification training, participation in military formations, and medical mobility processing within the guidelines of NGB/ARNG/ANG/State/TAG rules, regulations and laws.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

  • This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.
  • Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.

  • Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement.
  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
  • May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
  • This position is located at a bargaining unit and eligible for union representation through Chapter 102 of the Association of Civilian Technicians.

WHO CAN APPLY:
GROUP I
- All qualified Male/Female Enlisted Personnel (E4/SPC - E6/SSG) currently employed (permanent) in the Virginia Army National Guard Military Technician Program.
GROUP II - All qualified Virginia Army National Guard Male/Female Enlisted Personnel (E4/SPC - E6/SSG) regardless of employment status (Traditional, Military Technician or AGR). To be considered as a Group II applicant, proof of appointment/enlistment in the Virginia National Guard must be attached if the appointment/enlistment occurred within 60 days prior to, or during, the advertisement period.
GROUP III - Individuals eligible for membership in the Virginia Army National Guard.

Military Grades: Enlisted Member (E4/SPC - E6/SSG)

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training which demonstrates the ability to distinguish between closely related or similar items, ability to follow procedures, ability to sort materials by type, and skill in the use of hand tools.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicant must have at leave 12 months of specialized experience, equivalent to at least the WG-06 level, or equivalent pay band in other pay systems in the Federal government. This experience may also have been obtained in the private sector but must demonstrate that it is comparable to the WG grade indicated. This experience must include activities such as:

  1. Experience or training identifying and sorting a variety of complex materials and equipment.
  2. Experience receiving materials and equipment, recording, and placing items in proper storage areas.
  3. Experience interpreting and using Federal Supply Catalogs, military and manufacturing catalogs, and technical and agency manuals.
  4. Experience using and operating forklifts and motor vehicles.

Education

This job does not have an education qualification requirement.
