This position is Non-appropriated Fund (NAF) and will be assigned to the JBSA Lackland Golf Course.

This is a regular full-time category position with guaranteed 35 hours per week. May work up to 40 hrs/week. Employees appointed to a regular category position are eligible for benefits.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs duties: Dusts. sprays. and fogs. pesticides such as herbicides. insecticides, miticides. and nematicides to control pests common to this geographical area on the golf course such as ants. army worms. wasps. sod web worms, beetles, grubs, mole crickets and other turf injuring or disease carrying insects found in buildings, as well as a variety of lawn, bush, and tree insects. Applies restricted use herbicides for weed control on the golf course. Selects mixes and applies solutions, emulsions, suspensions, dusts, and baits of varying percentages from concentrates or technical grade materials. Performs arithmetic calculations to determine rate use and quantity of pesticides and to mix and apply pesticides according to product label instructions to adhere to legally mandated requirements and to avoid misapplications which can present hazards to human health and environment. Exercises caution and consideration disbursing pesticides in areas where contamination or damage to property is likely or frequented by personnel, domestic animals, or desirable wildlife. Wears personal protective equipment (PPE) such as respirators, ear protectors, eye guards, goggles, face shields, coats, overalls, and spray suits. Cleans all PPE after each daily use. Prepares and maintains daily records of pesticides used and the pest control work accomplished. Keeps records of inventory of chemicals and adjusts records accordingly as chemicals are used. Drives government vehicle such as sedan, truck, golf cart etc. Performs operator maintenance on application equipment such as, changing nozzles, valves, and hoses. Lubricates motors, pumps, and agitators using hand tools such as wrenches, pliers. and screwdrivers. This position will do pest control at least 55% of the year. Incumbent will be required to do other golf course related operations as needed depending upon manpower available to accomplish missions and objectives. 45% of the yearly operation will be, but not limited to, operating equipment for cutting greens, tees, fairways or roughs,changing cups, verti-cutting, aerating, and any other routine golf course maintenance task. Performs other duties as assigned.

  • This position requires the incumbent to complete a background investigation with favorable results.
  • This position has been identified as a Test Designated Position (TDP). The incumbent of this position will be subject to a pre-employment and random drug testing. Must have a valid driver's license.
  • This position has physical lifting requirement which requires the incumbent to complete a favorable pre-employment physical. Must be able to lift 100 pounds.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
  • This position requires the incumbent to be able to obtain and maintain a pesticide applicators license with the state of Texas or DoD.
  • This position requires the incumbent to be a U.S. Citizen or a Legal U.S. Resident for a minimum of 3 years and to reside in/around the area as noted in the Job Opportunity Announcement.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Qualifying Experience:
Experience with the methods employed at JBSA Lackland to include recognition, control, and prevention of common pests to the area including ornamental and turf plant pests. Experience performing arithmetic computations to properly mix and apply chemicals. Experience using a variety of common hand tools such as wrenches, pliers, and screwdrivers. Experience distinguishing different colors as raying is done with marking colorant.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA's):You qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

1. Knowledge of pesticide formulation.
2. Knowledge of the spray equipment required.
3. Knowledge on all mowing equipment.
4. Ability to perform mechanical services.

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program.
