  • Performs Supervisory functions such as interviews candidates, establishes performance expectations, evaluates staff performance, provides counsel/instruction to staff, and resolves minor complaints.
  • Analyzes organizational needs to design, develop, and implement customized solutions utilizing software and/or hardware to include developing and implementing a support strategy for the customized systems.
  • Plans, coordinates, and oversees the daily operation of Electronics Technicians.
  • Demonstrates technical supervision of highly complex electronic and facility enterprise systems to include design, installation, modification, evaluation, testing, troubleshooting, calibration, and end user competency training.
  • Handles project management to include stabilizing the expansion of existing enterprise systems to newly constructed areas and station-level projects under renovation or modernization.
  • Performs duties of a broad scope and complexity including analyzing, diagnosing, and maintaining electronic and facility enterprise systems.
  • Manages technology sustainment including regular and scheduled maintenance, upgrades, and enhancements.
  • Provides technical expertise related to electronic and facility enterprise systems via planning, design, implementation, testing, evaluation, project management, professional consulting and reporting, data mining, and full life cycle management.
  • Plans and oversees the installation of electronic and facility enterprise systems as well as directs modifications to equipment and/or designed to correct issues presented by unforeseen site conditions.
  • Executes technology implementation including site preparation, incoming performance inspections, device/system integration, network device security, and user/technical training.
  • Performs life cycle management of complex electronic and facility enterprise systems to include technology assessment related to defining requirements and analyzing alternatives with end users.

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:00am - 3:30pm. You may be expected to travel for this position to other VA Boston Healthcare System campuses for the purpose of supervising staff.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS
To apply for this position, you must have the following qualifications:

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:
At least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-10) in the Federal Service that has given you the particular knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform the duties of a Supervisory Electronics Technician and that is typically in or related to the work of the position. Specialized experience includes: (1) Work as a technician, instructor, inspector, or mechanic (civilian or military) that showed progression in theoretical and practical knowledge of electronic theory, and of the characteristics, function, operation, and capabilities of a variety of types of electronic equipment. This experience must have included the use of schematic diagrams, a variety of test equipment, and the application of appropriate electronic formulas involved in such duties as testing, troubleshooting, modifying, designing, calibrating, installing, maintaining, repairing, constructing, developing, and instructing on electronic equipment, or similar functions. (2) Experience in developing policies, standards, and procedures for maintenance, installation, or similar functions, provided the work clearly shows that the applicant applied a specialized knowledge of the theories and principles of a variety of electronic systems or equipment. A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week.

SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED):
Successfully completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, or 3 academic years of progressively higher-level graduate education, that is directly related to the work of the Supervisory Electronics Technician position, such as electrical engineering, electronics engineering, or electronics technology. NOTE: Transcripts (unofficial or official) must be submitted with your application materials. Education cannot be credited without documentation.

COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED):
Equivalent combinations of successfully completed graduate level education (beyond a master's degree) and specialized experience, as described above. Education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. NOTE: Experience must be fully documented on your resume and must include job title, duties, month and year start/end dates AND hours worked per week. A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Transcripts (unofficial or official) must be submitted with your application materials. Physical Requirements:
The work is a combination of sedentary and requiring physical effort and exertion such as e.g., walking, standing, carrying light items such as manuals or briefcases, or driving or traveling by motor vehicle. Long periods of standing, bending, and stooping is also required to observe and study work operations in project construction areas/sites, confined spaces, use of scaffolding multi-stories tall, mechanical equipment rooms, and other spaces that are noisy, dirty and close quarters, and lifting of light to moderate heavy items weighing less than 50 pounds.
