Summary

This position is part of the Haskell Indian Nations University, Bureau of Indian Education (BIE), Department of the Interior (DOI). As a Electrician you will be responsible for working from building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, engineering, drawings, and electrical maintenance and repair manuals to plan and lay out the routing, placement type, size, gauge, balance, load, continuity, and safe operation of electrical lines, circuits, systems, equipment and controls.

Duties

Help

As a Electrician, WG-2805-10, your typical work assignments will include the following:

  • Inspect, maintain, repair and test electrical motors, buzzer and bell circuits, light sockets, lighting fixtures, fire alarm systems, electronic score boards, electronic wheelchair lifts, intercom systems, appliances and/or equipment.
  • Insert, splice, and connect wires to fixtures, outlets, switches, receptacles and power sources.
  • Repair broken or frayed wiring and repairs and/or replaces switches, plugs, fuses, fluorescent and incandescent lamps and makes tests required to assure satisfactory results.
  • Follow maintenance and inspection schedules; perform maintenance services, diagnose system malfunctions and make necessary repairs.

Qualifications

Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualifications and will be evaluated on their ability to perform duties of the position rather than the length of experience. Eligibility will be determined by the relevance, scope and quality of all experience and training.

WORKING CONDITIONS: The work is performed both inside and outside. Electrical workers are sometimes required to make repairs and installations in bad weather; in work areas that are noisy, dirty, dusty, and greasy; on scaffolding or cranes at heights of 9 meters (30 feet) or more; and in close quarters such as manholes, attics, or aboard ships. They are occasionally exposed to the possibility of injury from falling, electrical shock, burns, and rotary devices such as electrical motors. They are frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts and bruises.

OTHER SIGNIFICANT FACTS: The position is required to operate a government-owned or leased motor vehicle in the performance of duties. Travel involves transit via airplane and motor vehicle.

The position may be required to work other than normal hours as necessary to handle emergency situations or peak workloads.

Education

This position does not have a positive education requirement at this grade level. Therefore, no transcripts are required.

Additional information

Career Transition Assistance Program (CTAP)/Interagency Career Transition Assistance Program (ICTAP) Documentation. DRIVING REQUIREMENT (Required only at time of appointment): Incumbent may be required, as an incidental duty, to operate a government-owned or leased motor vehicle, in the performance of duties, therefore, a valid driver's license is required. Incumbent must have a safe driving record within the three-year period immediately preceding submittal of GSA Form 3607 and be able to meet the safe driving requirements of the Bureau of Indian Education.
