Help

The incumbent serves as a Program Support Assistant (PSA) for all administration activities at the Black Hills National Cemetery, and performs a wide variety of administrative duties, purchasing/COR functions, Cemetery Representative duties, and ADP functions in support of cemetery operations.

Administrative functions include the coordination and implementation of mandatory directives, regulations, procedures, and policies, of an internal nature concerning the use of facilities, manpower, equipment, and supplies, or changes in the administrative, financial, or interment management programs. Under own initiatives, or when assigned, investigates known programs for operational deficiencies and recommends corrective action. Trains other administrative cemetery representatives in administrative procedures.

Assists in preparing and typing correspondence of a routine nature. Utilizes a variety of office automation software such as word processing, spreadsheets, database management and desktop publishing software. Prepares and types necessary forms, reports, and other correspondence that directly affect the cemetery mission and operation with guidance from their Supervisor. Files correspondence in accordance to the cemeteries file plan. Creates a wide variety of correspondence in final form and determines the type of action involved, proper format, punctuation, spelling, grammatical construction, and clarity of thought. Composes and replies to standardized and routine correspondence.

Performs public outreach as needed.

Work schedule: Required to work Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. May include occasional weekends. Due to the mission of the National Cemetery, the cemetery cannot be closed for more than 2 consecutive days at any given time. Additionally, when a Federal holiday falls on a Monday or Friday, staff may be required to work on that holiday or a Saturday. All staff is required to work Memorial Day and Veteran's Day each year. Staff will be required to work overtime, weekends and holidays when necessary to meet the needs of the cemetery. Occasionally staff may be called back to the facility to perform emergency overtime work.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 06/16/2025.

  • Must have the ability to type at least 40 words per minute.

  • Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: administrative/office work experience that includes work such as gathering data, coordinating meetings, establishing and maintaining an efficient filing system, using automated data processing equipment to generate a variety of reports, purchase cardholder and budget experience, establishing priorities and meeting deadlines, and experience with Microsoft Office.

Physical Requirements: The work may require some physical effort such as standing, walking, bending, or sitting. There are no special physical demands.
