Duties

Help
  • You will develop, plan, coordinate and/or provide electronics and marine machinery mechanic trade theory training via shipboard and shop/classroom settings to maintain workforce requirements.
  • You will utilize classroom equipment, electronics tools and equipment, instructional media, mock-ups, and other training material to deliver training.
  • You will monitor quality workmanship of employees to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • You will troubleshoot and/or repair external hull penetrators and associated cabling to meet specifications.
  • You will utilize measuring and testing equipment for the repair of ship/submarine systems.
  • You will communicate clearly with others verbally and/or in writing to ensure clarity of mission and objectives
  • You will develop and/or administer written and practical training assignment tests.

  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current IT-II certification.

  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • You will be required to perform occasional sea duty.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.

The ability to do the work of an Electronic Integrated Systems Mechanic Training Leader without more than normal supervision such as develop, plan, coordinate and provide electronics and/or marine Machinery Mechanic Trade Theory Training via shipboard, shop, or classroom setting to maintain workforce requirements. Direct, coordinate and/or lead jobs to meet production goals. Utilize measuring and testing equipment for repair of ships and/or submarine systems. Ability to work independently with limited supervision to meet production schedules. Ability to communicate clearly with others verbally and/or in writing to ensure clarity of mission and objectives. Ability to utilizing classroom equipment, electronics tools and equipment, instructional media, mock-ups, and other training material to deliver training. Maintain documentation of trade theory grades and On the Job Learning (OJL) experience hours. Develop and administer written and/or practical training assignment tests. Monitor quality workmanship of employees to ensure compliance with regulations.

This position is subject to bruises, high level noises, fumes from solvent, soil from dirt and grease, and high levels of heat and humidity.

Work aboard ships and submarines and within shops may lead to exposure to industrial noises generated or cause by operating machinery and equipment.

Incumbent may be confined and congested areas and be exposed to industrial dirt, dust, grease, oil, and abrasives caused by shipboard equipment, materials, industrial fumes, and airborne particles in all work areas.

Work around nuclear industrial areas, participate in RADCON activities, and qualification as a Limited Radiation Worker may be required.

Eye hazards will exist in some areas during certain operations.

Use of protective devices, clothing, and/or equipment such as but not limited to, safety glasses, hard hats, respirators, and safety shoes will be required while exposed to adverse environmental and hazardous work assignments.

Light to moderate physical exertion is required in lifting/carrying items weighing up to 40 pounds unassisted and occasionally lifting up to 110 pounds with assistance.

Eye sight must be corrected to normal and color perception is required for identifying color-coded electrical components.

Will require periods of vertical climbing, stooping, and moving in and out of close confinement.

Will be required to take physical examinations in accordance with mandatory Safety and Health standards and requirements.

Work may be required onboard submarines at sea for short periods of time (sea trails, etc)

This position requires rotating shift work.
