Help
  • Provides the public with accurate information concerning facilities, rules and regulations, programs, emergency services points of interest (historical, cultural, and natural), travel routes, or recreational activities.
  • Works with the public to provide information on off-highway vehicles and safety.
  • Works well independently building relationships with partners or new neighbors.
  • Presents a variety of interpretive or educational programs/presentations which include talks, walks, or demonstrations.
  • Assists with the development of interpretative or educational programs/presentations by selecting and organizing material to suit the purpose of the program.
  • Maintains recreational trails to standards of safety and ensures that signs and boundary markers are adequately posted.
  • Enforces regulations concerning use of public land and recreational facilities through educational or interpretive techniques or makes referral to law enforcement personnel as warranted.
  • Conducts compliance checks for permits or authorizations.
  • Safely operates 4x4 vehicles in a desert and mountainous environment including trucks, utility terrain vehicles, all-terrain vehicles and other off-highway vehicles.
  • Ability to respond to emergency conditions as a first responder and render aid to adults and children until emergency medical technicians/paramedics arrive.
  • Knowledge of emergency medical techniques/methods to protect life, safety, and health of BLM employees and visitors.

  • You must pass a pre-employment physical.
  • An applicant appointed to this position must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license while employed in this position.
  • May require a one year probationary period.
  • This position is included in a bargaining unit. The National Federation of Federal Employees (NFFE), Local 2052, is the exclusive representative of all employees in this bargaining unit.
  • This is a Drug Testing Designated Position. You will be required to submit to screening for illegal drug use and pass prior to appointment. This position is subject to random testing for illegal drug use.
  • With in 60 days of your entry on duty date, you MUST be accredited and licensed with Imperial County Local Emergency Medical Services Agency

Qualifications

Selective Placement Factors: This position requires a special qualification that has been determined to be essential to perform the duties and will be used as a screen out element. Those who do not provide evidence they possess the following selective factor(s) will be rated not qualified:

  • Must possess a current National Registry Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT), EMT or higher-level, certification, by the close date of this announcement. You MUST provide your certificate/card in your application.

  • Must possess a current and valid California State EMT License and Certification. You MUST provide your certificate/card in your application.

INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT - PARK RANGER SERIES (OHV)

You must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 level that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity as indicated by the following examples:

Specialized Experience: Experience that demonstrated the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform successfully the duties of the position to be filled. Experience may have been in technical, administrative, or scientific work, fish and wildlife management, recreation management, law enforcement, or other park-related work. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Park guide or tour leader.
  • Law enforcement or investigative work.
  • Archeological or historical preservation research work.
  • Forestry and/or fire management work in a park, recreation, or conservation area.
  • Management, assistant, or program specialist work involving the development and implementation of policy related to protection, conservation, or management of park areas or similar operations.

Graduate Education: 1 full year of Graduate education related to the occupation or the superior academic achievement.

Combination of Education and Experience: You may meet qualifications requirement for this position with an equivalent combination of specialized experience and appropriate graduate education. Graduate level education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position.

Physical Demands: The work is performed mostly outdoors in rugged terrain; to include very steep, wet, muddy, rough, uneven or rocky surfaces. The position requires physical exertion such as, but not limited to, driving over unpaved roads, walking over rough terrain or inclines, standing for long periods of time, bending, crouching and stooping, digging, hiking, lifting, biking, stretching, reaching, or similar activities. Work may involve early morning hours, night hours, or daytime hours and may require working on holidays. It can require carrying heavy backpacks, tools, rescue equipment, or other loads.

Work Environment: Most work will be performed out of doors, in all types of weather conditions, terrain, and elevations.
Work may take place in an extremely remote environment and may require primitive camping and living skills for upwards of two weeks in duration. Indoor duties are performed in a normal office setting.
