Duties

Help
  • Developing, evaluating, testing, and ensuring implementation of specialized telecommunications support to ensure the continued functioning of specific government components under all conditions.
  • Supports planning and operations for an emergency preparedness mission.
  • Participates in working groups and makes operational and planning decisions to resolve information technology and telecommunications conflicts.
  • Leads information technology/telecommunications projects, ensuring compliance with existing policies and integration practices.
  • Evaluates, analyzes, develops, manages, and improves communication systems through internal policy and procedure reviews and revisions.

Qualifications

To qualify for a Telecommunications Specialist, your resume and supporting documentation must support:

A. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular competencies to successfully perform the duties of the position and is directly in or related to this position. To qualify at the GS-13level, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service, military, or private sector. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements including time-in-grade (General Schedule (GS) positions only), time-after-competitive appointment, minimum qualifications, and any other regulatory requirements by the cut-off/closing date of the announcement. Creditable specialized experience includes:

  • Experience working with telecommunication systems supporting emergency telecommunications, emergency preparedness and special mission requirements.
  • Experience functioning as technical authority in assignments requiring the application of new theories, concepts, and developments to communication problems not susceptible to treatment by accepted methods, technology, or procedures.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Physical Demands
The work requires some physical exertion such as long periods of standing, walking over rough or uneven surfaces, recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, and recurring lifting of moderately heavy items.

Work Environment
The work is performed around moving parts, carts, or machines; at construction or other work sites where equipment is being installed and/or removed requiring the wearing of hardhats, safety shoes, or similar situations involving moderate risks or discomforts which require special safety precautions such as wearing protective clothing or gear such as hoots, goggles, gloves, or shields.

Education

Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.
