Summary

About the position: This position is Non-appropriated Fund (NAF) and will be assigned to the Lodging Facility on Youngstown ARS, OH.

The purpose of this position is to serve as a maintenance worker for the base Lodging facilities.

Requires standing, bending, kneeling, climbing ladders and working in uncomfortable positions. Heavy physical effort is required. Heavy lifting and carrying items of 50 lbs or more, and moving furniture.

You are guaranteed to work at least 20 hours per week.

Duties

Help

1. Performs maintenance and minor repairs to interior and exterior structures and related fixtures and utilities of lodging. Duty assignments require the use of a variety of trade practices associated with occupations such as carpentry, painting and plumbing. Engineering These simple routine tasks are performed with little supervision. The more complex jobs will be performed by the local Civil Department.

2. Repairs small holes in sheetrock walls to include patching, sanding and painting as required. Repairs doors and doorways which may specific require directions change door locks, unjam doors and sanding and painting as needed. Selects and mixes coating materials according to or uses pre-mixed paint. Paints small areas as directed. Insures that surfaces are fully coated, protected and free from drips and runs. Cleans stoppages in plumbing, replaces washers in faucets and replaces shower heads.

3. Performs minor repair and maintenance of furniture to include gluing and refinishing damaged areas. Repairs drapery rods and/or venetain blinds, replaces interior trim, broken or worn tile. Performs minor repairs to small appliances such as vacuum rooms cleaners, lams and coffee pots. Installs shelving and towel racks or rods in bathrooms, housekeeping storage areas and supply and /or other designated areas.

4. Polices outside areas of transient quarters, adjacent parking areas and access roads. Rakes leaves, spreads mulch, pulls weeds, spreads needed, chemicals on icy surfaces, & shovels snow. Waters flowers and plants minor landscaping items, etc. Washes windows as using step ladder or extension ladder.

Qualifying Experience:
Must be able to use a variety of hand tools associated with carpentry, painting, and plumbing. Knowledge of standards surface preparation and coating methods and techniques. Able to carry out oral and written instructions. Must have experience in the minor repair of furniture, woodwork refinishing, electrical repair anda plumbing. Must have the ability to do more than one task at a time and uses judgement in sequencing tasks. Must be physically able to occasionally lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds. Must be able to continuously stand, bend, stoop, and reach for long periods of time. Must be able to operate a motor vehicle up to one ton. Must be able to satisfactorily complete a National Agency Check Inquiry (NACI).


Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.
