Duties

Help
  • Analyze paper/electronic health records for completeness and in accordance with regulations and requirements.
  • Utilize automated medical records systems to retrieved and input information.
  • Apply knowledge of medical record practice, medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, the major disease processes, relationships of internal parts of records and knowledge of legal requirements for consent for release of treatment information.
  • Verify patient identification using DEERS rapids system and determines eligibility for care through a military medical facility.
  • Obtain necessary information from new patients for creation of medical records and file contents.
  • Answer phone calls from staff, patients and/or public and greets visitors.
  • Prepare and process authorization for disclosure of documents on all requests for copies of medical records from patients, physicians, or other medical treatment facilities.

  • A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
  • Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
  • A pre-placement medical examination is required.
  • Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
  • Moderate to heavy lifting may be required.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. General Experience: One year of general experience. General experience is progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled, such as, utilizing medical records automated systems to input and retrieve information; utilizing medical terminology to review medical information for continuity of care; applying rules and regulations concerning the release of patient information.

Education: Two years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of by 60. Add the two percentages.
