Summary

This position serves as the Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic Supervisor in the Facilities Management Service at the Richmond VA Medical Center, under the supervision of the Supervisory Facility Operations Specialist, with second-level direction provided by the Assistant Chief Healthcare Engineer. As such, this position is responsible for supervising one (1) WL-10 Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic Work Leader, and ten (10) WG-10 Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanics.

The primary responsibility is to supervise the operations, maintenance, and repair of all Richmond VAMC s air handlers, refrigerators, decentralized chillers, and cold storage rooms, reheat, heat exchangers, pumps, fans, motors, valves, and thermostats of Richmond VAMC 24x7, around-the-clock air conditioning section.

As a regular and recurring part of the position, the incumbent is assigned duties and responsibilities for supervising the complete operation, repair, installation and maintenance of all Richmond VAMC air handlers, refrigerators, decentralized chillers, and cold storage rooms, such as the morgue and walk-in refrigerators. This includes multiple buildings including, but not limited to 500 Main Hospital, 511 Yellow Clinic, 512 Fisher House I and II, 509 Manufacturing, 513 Clinical, 520 Women's Clinic, 523 Data Center, 514 Polytrauma, 508 COOP, 507 Multi-Use and 515 Outpatient Polytrauma.

Plans and schedules the work of subordinate employees in their performance of various maintenance and operations duties throughout the Richmond VAMC campus.

Performs other directly related duties as assigned.

Additional Information

Tour of Duty/Overtime. Emergency overtime may be required. May be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays. Overtime and/or changes in the employee's standard tour of duty may be required upon occasion to complete assigned task.

Valid State Driver's License. Must possess a valid driver's license. Incumbent requires occasional travel to satellite VA facilities with a government furnished vehicle to support these facilities as required. In addition, this incumbent is a critical incumbent and will require supporting the hospital in emergent situations at all hours; must have the capability to drive to the facility. The incumbent must be able to drive a motor vehicle and heavy equipment.

Respirator Requirement. Required to be fit tested for a respirator on an annual basis which may prohibit facial hair growth.

Fire Stopping/NFPA Requirements. Must be proficient at repairing firewalls as the result of any penetrations made by the installation of any wires, conduits, mechanical piping, etc. In addition, will identify, follow, and implement all NFPA requirements to assure the safe operations at the medical center. Examples include assuring all conduit systems are properly. installed with their appropriate covers and fire sprinkler piping is not used to support anything. Ultimately it is the responsibility to identify and repair these deficiencies and if not qualified to remedy, assure the immediate supervisor is contacted to properly address.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:30am - 4pm

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.
