Summary

This position is Non-appropriated Fund (NAF) and will be assigned to JBSA Lackland Outdoor Recreation. This is a flexible position with guaranteed 00 hours per week. You may be scheduled up to 40 hours per week. Employees appointed to a flexible category position are not eligible for benefits

Duties

Help

The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a lifeguard and perform other related swimming facility duties.
Monitors activities within assigned swimming areas. Maintains order and enforces established rules of safety and behavior.
Instructs, cautions, and/or expels patrons as appropriate. Reports problems to senior lifeguard or supervisor. Rescues and
resuscitates individuals in danger of drowning and renders first aid to injuries. Uses a variety of techniques such as artificial
respiration, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and first aid. Notifies emergency medical services (EMS) and/or other
appropriate personnel for more serious accidents/injuries. Uses equipment such as first aid kits, buoys, ropes, rings,
shepherd's hooks, and backboards. Cleans assigned areas (e.g., bathrooms, decks, locker rooms, showers, pool, etc.)
according to established schedules and instructions. Checks pool water chemistry according to established schedules and
instructions (e.g., temperature, chlorine, pH, etc.) and documents/reports findings. Reports equipment/facilities problems to
appropriate personnel. Verifies that customers are authorized to use facility by checking appropriate identification. Collects
admission fees, makes change, and completes appropriate forms. Assists water safety instructor (WSI) in conducting
swimming lessons. As required and under the guidance of the instructor, monitors one or more students during swim class
for problems such as signs of fatigue or struggle. May assist in demonstrating basic swim strokes. Advises instructor
concerning student progress/problems. Work is performed indoors and outdoors and involves long periods of exposure to
summer sun and chlorinated water. May be required to work other than normal duty hours which may include evenings,
weekends, and/or holidays.

Qualifying Experience:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA's):

Must possess a current and valid Nationally recognized Lifeguard Certification covering lifesaving and water rescue
methods, skills, and procedures.
Must posses a current and valid Nationally recognized Basic First Aid Certification.
Must posses a current and valid Nationally recognized CPR certification which includes adult, child, and infant procedures.
Must be able to lift and carry 45 pounds and over.

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.
