Duties

Help

Assists the Resource Manager in the performance of technical and management advisory of financial functions of the NAF accounting office which includes funds/revenue, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, purchasing/contracting and reporting requirements. Develops written accounting instructions and operating procedures as necessary to clarify, supplement, or implement current and revised procedures. Updates management on any unusual variances or changes in the accounting program. Participates in financial management meetings with operating officials and provides information und guidance, as required. Manages financial systems and produces financial information for base, MAJCOM and AFSVA in accordance with existing accounting principles, statutes and regulations. Performs the full range of accounting duties using double-entry accrual accounting methods in reconciling subsidiary ledges and posting to general ledger accounts. Performs a monthly reconciliation and recapitulation of the general accounts and subsidiary ledgers to assure the basic accounting in the computerized and manual reports is in balance. Classifies and verifies a wide variety of accounting documents in order to assure their accuracy prior to preparing monthly/quarterly reports. Prepares, and analyzes year-end adjusting entries to balance all accounts. Review current work process procedures to improve efficiency, effectiveness and customer satisfaction. Audits all books of original entry and the general ledger making any required corrections. Selectively performs the internal audit of all accounting documents for accuracy, legibility and timeliness. Analyzes all transactions for effect on assets. Liabilities, and equity. Maintains the computer accounting system, NAFDIS (Nonappropriated Fund Data Interface System) and Cash Management Investment Program (CMIP). Recognizes and initiates correction of error situations. Ensures adequate audit trails are maintained. Performs and maintains daily backup files. Oversees the general ledger, subsidiary accounts and manual logs to ensure accuracy. Reviews and analyzes all products for accuracy. Researches variances and Initiates proper corrective actions. Ensures subsidiary accounts balance to general ledger control accounts. Oversees the CMIP to ensure deposits, remits, and disbursement are balanced daily. Conducts informal training and provide back-up skills by cross training. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifying Experience:
Progressively responsible accounting experience. Experience in the interrelationship of accounts and the effects of debit and credit transactions on the overall system of general ledgers. Experience with accounting and accounting systems, payroll systems and procedures. Experience in procurement procedures. Experience with leading others.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA's):
Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
