Duties

Help

  • Performs a variety of painting on facilities indoors and out, also on equipment, using standard type brushes', rollers and sprayers.
  • Makes minor repairs to plumbing fixtures such as disposal systems, leaky drains, faucets, etc. Performs simple carpentry work to install mirrors, shelves and curtain rods.
  • Refinishes damaged or scarred areas on furniture. Patches walls. Repairs doors, locks and closures, windows and screens. May repair and replace ceramic tile to include grouting. Changes outlets, switches, light fixtures.
  • Repairs housekeeping equipment. Moves furniture. Changes Air conditioning heating filters.
  • Investigates reported problems to ascertain cause and takes corrective action within capability. Accomplishes preventive maintenance in all areas and refers problems not correct to Base Civil Engineer for solution. Completes and tracks AF Forms 332.
  • Acts as in-house project manager for self-help renovation. Determining necessary supplies and scheduling work efforts.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Uses a GOV to conduct various maintenance jobs at all lodging buildings.
CONTROLS OVER WORK: Works under the supervision of the Lodging Manager who makes work assignments. Normal work is accomplished making independent judgments and decisions within the framework of oral and written instructions and accepted techniques and procedures. Completed work is periodically spot-checked for compliance

OTHER SIGNIFICANT FACTS: Physical Effort: Stands, stoops, climbs, kneels, and lifts light to heavy weights and works in tiring and uncomfortable positions.

Working Conditions: Works inside and outside in all kinds of weather. Is exposed to dirt, dust, and grease and the possibility of scrapes, bruises, bums and cuts from powered or hand tools. Works on scaffolding and high ladders. May be required to wear protective equipment and clothing that are sometimes heavy and uncomfortable.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Qualifying Experience:
Prior carpentry, plumbing, electrical and wall painting experience is preferred. Must be physically able to withstand continual standing, bending, stooping, reaching, lifting, climbing and frequent lifting up to 50 pounds. Must be able to read written instructions. Must satisfactorily complete a T1 investigation. This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use.

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.
