Duties

Help

Ensures that facility is open to patrons at scheduled times. Observes the condition and behavior of swimmers to ascertain any potential problems. Enforces safety rules regulations. Ensures that waterside is inspected and in operation condition. Fosters good relationship with patrons. Instructs, cautions, and/or expels patrons as appropriate. Resolves difficult problems and reports incident to pool manager/supervisor. Answers questions on procedures, policies, directives and obtains needed information or decision from pool manager/supervisor regarding pool operations. Instructs Recreation Aids (Lifeguards/Instructors) in specific tasks, procedures, techniques and ensures timely accomplishment of work assignments. Monitors students during swim lessons for problems such as signs of fatigue or struggle, demonstrates swim strokes and/or aerobic moves and ensures instructors follow lesson plans laid out by the American Red Cross. Leads and participates in required in-service training, maintains capability, valid certification to perform lifesaving and water rescue and to administer first aid and CPR. Ensures pool chemicals are maintained within the proper guidelines and safety zones. Uses a variety of techniques such as artificial respiration, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and first aid. Notifies emergency medical services (EMS) and/or other appropriate personnel for more serious accidents/injuries. Uses equipment such as first aid kits, ring buoys, and backboards. Assists in cleaning assigned areas (e.g. bathrooms, pool/pool deck, locker rooms, shower, gutters etc.) according to established schedules and instructions. Work is performed indoors and outdoors and involves long periods of exposure to summer sun and chlorinated water.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if the position allows for qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Qualifying Experience:
Must possess a current and valid lifeguard certification covering lifesaving and water rescue methods, skills and procedures. Must possess current and valid basic first aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer w/AED certifications. CPR certifications must include adult, child and infant procedures. Water Safety Instructor certification is desirable. All certifications must remain current during the period of employment. Knowledge of swimming facility rules, work procedures, equipment and materials to perform standing and recurring task is a must. Work experience must include 2 full pool seasons. Must be able to lift and carry 45lbs and over. Must be 18 years of age.

Education

This position does not allow for education substitution.
